I live in Ohio, obviously the winters up here are horrible on bearings and suspension parts. I used similar tools when removing the assembly. 36mm socket on an impact you can buy one at autozone and return it when done. 13mm swivel socket to remove the back bolts, and used a bearing puller available at autozone for $59 WELL WORTH THE MONEY trust me! Part number is 25916. clean splines of cv shaft with wire brush, apply anti seize compound and install new hub. RENT A TORQUE WRENCH TOO!!

Make sure the socket on the 13mm bolts on the back side is good and on square, it's a very bad day if you round them off. Also if the CV axle needs some persuasion use a center punch so you don't mushroom out the end, also causing frustration. To prevent possible issues with traction control / ABS you may want to replace both sides at the same time.

@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
Worst case scenario you can cut the wire and install it, don't unbolt the ABS sensor from the buh as it seals the hole but the hub bearings are the same. Your vehicle will not know the difference. Also thanks for watching!!

@ktdaboss85 Does the car turn over (crank) when trying to start it? The most common cause of this on these cars not starting is actually the Fuel pump going bad. The spark plugs will not usually cause a car to not start, usually just run poorly. Did the car sit for a long time (days) before you tried to start it yesterday?

Maybe it's northern cars then that get the corrosion from the salt on the roads? In this job the hub really did come out as easily as shown in the video. Down here in Florida it's rare for a hub assembly to be seized in the knuckle, they usually just fall out when the bolts are removed.

Hi. My name is Dat50go and I have a 1st gen gm w-body 1994 buick regal custom with the 3.8 liter (3800) series 1 motor and the rear struts with the leaf spring and whatever else came factory, and I was wondering if you can do a video showing how to swap the rear struts on the 94' to that of later years which have the coil spring strut assembly as I noticed the housing area where the strut mount bracket goes seems a lot narrower than those cars that have the strut spring assembly. I seen a 2004 gtp at the junkyard and wanted to remove the supercharged motor and trans from the car along with the complete rear suspension system and all 4 calipers and rotors (4 piston drill/slotted). As for the front I haven't checked to see how the steering rack is situated. The rear sway bar just mounts different from 94 buick regal and 04 pontiac gtp. Much appreciated 🙏

What is the size of the nut on that shaft?
@karmaduq3 жыл бұрын
Looks waaay too loose. Axle nut torque is typically in the 150s for these, and you've really gotta be smoother with that wrench, wait and get an actual reading. Never *shove* a nut tighter.

Wish I had the powertools to do this. How did you take of the hub nut by the way? At least you gave me a visual which is what I needed.
@APDTY11 жыл бұрын
To me it's strange that so many people experience stuck hubs, maybe it's because we are in Florida, and we have less rusting issues, but here it is very rare to encounter a difficult to remove hub. Almost always they will just fall out after removing the bolts. The hub really did come off just like you see in the video, I never knew that was not a common occurrence.

my frt whl bearing has 0 movement but it is making a low growling type noise really noticable at hwy spds. do you think a bearing or should i be checking else whr? definitely frt lft area though
@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
A good test for a bearing noise is drive straight down the road at around 45 mph, enough speed to get the noise going, then slightly move the steering wheel left and right (yes while going straight, just do it slightly), if a bearing is the course, the noise should stop as soon as you turn it and then return slightly after straightening out again. This is because when you turn the wheel slightly, you remove the load from the bearing for. split second. You can also test drive it and then take an infrared thermometer and measure the temp of the center of the wheel, the side with the falling bearing is usually much hotter and an infrared thermometer gives it away.

Does this hub/bearing require grease? I didn't see him use any. I actually am about to do this exact same repair with the same Timken part. But I guess maybe i'm old school. We always had to pack bearings with grease.
@APDTY9 жыл бұрын
Most all newer cars and trucks use what is called a sealed hub bearing assembly and it does have grease, but you cannot get to it as it is sealed inside the hub assembly. Tapered wheel bearings that you could remove and pack with grease have gone away for the most part and now it is just the whole assembly. The internal grease is the only grease it will get its entire life and really this is why we see so many hub bearings failing at 40-50,000 miles.

If the wheel is actually wiggling, you need to service that asap as that is very bad, you would most likely want a shop to inspect that for you and make sure it is just the bearing, seeing an actual wiggle means serious failure.

@brianodom7978 жыл бұрын
sensor is part of the wheel bearing assembly
@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
The ABs sensor is usually sold with the hub assembly, also many times the sensor failed because teh hub bearing is failing, the hub bearing has grease inside that keeps it cool, once the grease is gone or depleted, then the bearing heats up and can damage teh sensor. So you are usually better off by just replacing the entire hub assembly.

I thought an impala was 159lb for the axle nut? all other chevys were 118lb?
@APDTY9 жыл бұрын
The torque is specific to the model year and actually the axle nut being used. Many General Motors vehicles have had the front axle nut upgraded to what is called a torques prevailing axle nut and you install it in place of the original axle nut. The new style axle nut uses a lower torque and allows the torque to spread across the body of the hub and bearing to more equally spread out the load on the bearing. To find out if a new axle nut is available for your vehicle or not, call a dealership parts department and they can run your VIN to look-up the newest axle nut available. The repair manual may or may not mention this new axle nut as it was designed after the vehicle was made so it is important to check with your VIN. If an axle nut is too tight or too lose, it will significantly reduce the life of the hub bearing.

@APDTY11 жыл бұрын
Hi Manuel, the first step would be to have a shop check the codes in the ABS computer or body control module to find out the reason those lights are on. Once you find out what the trouble codes are, you can often go straight to the source of the problem. It could be anything from a failed speed sensor, to an electrical wiring problem, to something more serious like a failed ABS pump. The only way to know for sure is to find out the trouble codes stored in the system.

is the rear the same?
@apdty663910 жыл бұрын
The rear is very similar except you do not have a center axle nut to deal with. The other difference is you remove 4 retaining bolts instead of 3 and you remove them from the front of the hub. If you are purchasing a rear hub bearing, pay special attention to if you have rear ABS or not as 2 different bearings exist. You are welcome to call us if you need help when purchasing.

+Mary lu Tires can also make noise, checking them for irregular wear patterns (chopping or edge feathering). Rotating the tires to see if the noise changes is another way to eliminate the tire as a noise maker. As for testing the bearing for noise and identifying the position, while driving and making a turn the bearing will change the sound pattern it makes as its loaded or unloaded

My ABS light and Trac Off light is on. My car hums under the drivers side when I turn. Could the wheel bearing be bad?
@brianodom7977 жыл бұрын
Those are all signs of a failing bearing
@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
all those symptoms point to a failing bearing, if you can get ahold of a scan tool and check the codes, you probably have a failed abs sensor on the from left which will cause both of those dash lights. Also when a bearing starts to fail, it heats up and either damages the abs sensor or interferes with the magnetic pickup. The ABS sensor is built into the hub bearing so just replacing the hub should fix your problem.
