I remember watching this race live, I saw the way the car went right as it faded to commercial and thought "This is gonna be a big wreck" Like I could sense it. And low and behold commercial was cut short to see cars scattered everywhere.

I'm assuming the NBC feeds were timed slightly different. Cuz I remember seeing that bumper cam of Harvick before commercial and it showed Gordon going low, but it stayed live long enough to show Harvick wiggle from the contact. I said to my dad at his Daytona 500 party that they were wrecking when it went to commercial. And they immediately cut back from commercial and there it was...

I remember this when it happened, it was caused by NASCAR allowing sideview mirrors and Harvick went for the block but forget that "objects in mirror are closer then they appear"

what jrfan said. The COT certainly helps keeps a car from breaking completely loose, however, you still have to realize, when you bunch a lot of cars up, and someone starts spinning, that wing aint gonna help you out much.

Well, there are exceptions every few years, but in that wreck, there wasn't alot of slamming and bumping between cars, it was mostly a bunch of cars wadding into a coherent mass and sliding together. Like a group hug:)

I remember this wreck quite well. Having seen what is in this video, just as they go to commercial, I knew exactly what happened before I even saw the replay. Harvick threw the block on Gordon's big run once, then a second time. I dunno about you, but that late in the Daytona 500, I don't think any other driver would do any different than what Gordon did. Harvick is equally at fault for putting himself into that position.

They got rid of the wicker bills, changed the angle of the rear spoiler, and also got rid of those additional roof spoilers causing the "too close for comfort" draft effects. That's what's different with these cars.

yup, and im gonna miss the old car in ganeral, i like the idea of making the cars safer and whatnot, and making the cars boxier should produce better racing...but is that splitter really necessary???...and a wing???. Should've just made the cars like they were in the late 90's...with improved safety.
