I just had this done to my 05 CR-V for a great price. I was not going to pay 2700.00 which was the price quoted to me from my local Honda dealership. The mechanic told me that my CR-V now should pass inspection. Thank you so much for putting together this great video, I really appreciate your expertise.

The one I need to work on this week, the bolts are unrecognizable and flange busted on the b pipe 3 hole flange at the cat. I'm going to replace b pipe but the cat flange is very rusty and thin. will see if it holds. Thanks for the video.

Appreciate your video. But you do not need to use OEM or even a direct fit cat. You just have to know what universal cat to use for your application. Ive owned a exhaust shop for 17 years. We change those Honda cats for 350.00 dollars. Universal cats get a bad rap cuz people use the cheapest one they can find and of course they don’t work. I can think of only a handful of cars that I suggest OEM cats.
@niashantelle47305 жыл бұрын
Hi, My Cat needs to be replaced, can you please recommend a good universal one?
@CharlesAndCars5 жыл бұрын
I don't know one off the top of my head... If you're going to use a universal one, there's probably a little work that needs to be done to fit it because it's not a direct fit... You're best if you go that route to go to someone who can fit it and get the warranty through them... Otherwise if you're planning on doing it yourself... probably best to go with a direct fit which will bolt in without any additional fitting.

my sisters crv is throwing p0420 and p2422. do you think that the main reason for the p0420 could be because of a bad oxygen sensor (p2422)?
@CharlesAndCars2 жыл бұрын
p2422 is an evap code (vent valve stuck closed). Don't know that it would cause the p0420 code, but it will affect mixture. I would fix that first and see if it has any affect on the p0420.

Ho has the converter held up? Do you know?
@CharlesAndCars3 жыл бұрын
It was holding up ok, but the car was totalled about 6 months after it was done. I use converters that have a good warranty and always replace the 02 sensors when doing one to make sure the warranty is in effect. Many times the oem price on converters is just too much for an older car. Sometimes it costs more than the car is worth as a whole.

Yeah, it's tough to show the whole job. Most won't watch a couple of hours of banging head against wall fighting with bolts, etc.
@dan98093 жыл бұрын
@@CharlesAndCars I understand your point. But it's those moments that define how tough the job might be for others who are watching your video seeking reference. It leaves people wondering what exactly needs to be done if they encounter the same issues that you encountered. Yes, take it off, put it back on. Works on paper, not in real life. I won't start a repair if I didn't research possible issues I may encounter and have an have the proper tools. My exhaust manifold donut gasket is leaking and the bolts are very rusty. I'm not going to blindly try to remove the bolts and have one strip or break off without watching a video showing the same issue. Thanks for your video and hard work. It just would have been nice to see the toughest parts of the job, along with your thoughts about the easiest way to get the job done in a timely manner.

@@phorse I don't know how disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would point you to the cat.... Should see a P0420 code in general when there's an issue with the cat..., but that code can also be caused by exhaust leaks or o2 sensors having issues.
