Well said. It was both Geoff and Chris who drove the band (so to speak). In this interview you can just see/hear it. The chemistry. You ever notice something? An interview with Geoff and Chris and they're talking to each other also. Bouncing off each other. Never seen that happen with Geoff and one of the other guys. Geoff and Chris got each other. No way do I see bitterness between these two. I see an understanding Geoff never had with the others.

such amazing intelligence and insight from these guys... But you can see through this interview that there is no way that post-DeGarmo Queensryche could ever measure up to the depth and genius that they created in those earlier days...As a die hard fan, I will always turn an ear towards the ryche to see what their latest groove is, but man, this really drives home how much Degarmo drove the machine!

You could tell back then when Chris speaks the rest of the band listen. Not a dictator kind of way but you know he's the brains of the band who's very level-headed that you look up to and respect in a leader, even Tate. When he left the band was brain dead even though the heart was still pumping.

I'm probably totally wrong, but it seems like DeGarmo and Tate were the real brain-trust behind the conceptual representation of what Queensryche was, in whatever iteration. Granted, I'm sure Wilton will contest to this. But stylistically, Tate and Degarmo repped what the vision of Queensryche truly was. Once they left, the band simply became a caricature of the original ideal. Hence, the many Journey comparisons where they're almost a karaoke version of the original lineup. So sad, that egos and creative differences would get in the way of real artistic proficiency.
@preachercaine
@preachercaine 5 жыл бұрын
In terms of promotion, I am sure you are right but the writing shows that Wilton had a much larger influence then he is given credit for. It appears to be the best Queensryche was the one with all of the original players but what people seem to have forgotten is they ran out of steam before any of them left. It happens, every band only has so much to say.

Chris DeGarmo did not quit music because of money, he quit because of the bullshit and touring. So now he is and has been an airline pilot,and got out of music altogether, him and Geoff are still very close friends and see or talk if their in the same city especially Seattle. @Phoenix87x If this interview is actually from 2002 it was 4 years after Chris had already left the band. This was probably shot during the recording of "Tribe" which Chris contributed to. I don't think Chris left due to the other band members- I think he left in order to stop touring and be a dad who is there for his kids. His songwriting talent is necessary for QR to be any good, BUT he also deserves to have the family life he wants!

I think he has calmed down alot ( finally). I completely quit watching anything he did for quite a while. For a while he looked, acted and sounded horrible. But , now I actually think he has gotten ( or getting ) back to being what is " normal" for him. Even his vocals have gotten a LOT better. Hopefully everything will continue to go well. I would actually go see him now.

That is seriously sad to hear lip syncing. Its something I have never done and never would. If you cannot play your music I feel you suck. @@allsystemsgo8678 i know right? Peace of mind, his family and following his other passion to become a pilot are invaluable in the face of a band who were on the down turn. Why the hell would he stay in an abusive relationship with a band who couldn't pull their weight anymore? He's a good man and he has his family in tact, and dabbles in his passion of music when he feels like it rather than the punch in time clock bad business of music. If anybody is in it for the money it's Tate who ran that band into the ground in the name of ego and dollah dollah bills which is why he's a friggin' lounge act singing with tapes.
