@j800r_aswell2 жыл бұрын
I think this interview actually told a lot of that story if you read between the lines. Chris was a MAJOR part of the band. Chris and Geoff were the primary creative force. Geoff has always marched a little more to the beat of his own drum. More varied musical tastes. The first one with the desire to work on original material. Geoff confirmed here that Chris was somewhat of a band leader for them. I feel like he probably served as the bridge (no pun intended, but happy coincidence) between Geoff and the rest of the band. The middle-ground. The most tastes in common with Geoff while sharing more tastes with the rest of the guys at the same time. After Chris left, they'd not only lost one of their primary creative forces but also a band leader. As Geoff was always a passionate songwriter he stepped up regarding the creative side and probably attempted to steer the ship a lot himself as well. As time went on, decisions and directions gained less and less traction (consider one of the most appreciated post-Chris albums was probably Tribe and Chris was back in the mix for that one). Then they went and put out Dedicated to Chaos. It tanked. Hard. Far more than any other release. Geoff and the rest of the guys just weren't gelling. I feel that Geoff got scapegoated a lot for that failiure of that album. The truth was the guys just couldn't work together anymore. They had struggled to since Chris and it was a miracle they hard fought to keep it going for so long. All of this just came to a head following DtC. The split was the best thing to happen to them. The only thing I have never agreed with is the continued use of the Queensryche name. Queensryche died that day. Hell, it could easily be argued they died back when Chris left and they were fighting for their lives ever since. The rest of the guys formed a great unit with Todd and under any other name (personal opinion) could have been a fantastic and far more respectable metal band. The biggest thing being the band finally saw eye to eye on things. Geoff is great now with what he's going. The others have their thing going strong. I feel if they were to "reunite" at any point it would HAVE to be a complete reunion. Chris included. A single, final album. The last album to bear the Queensryche name would be my dream but a single gig or mini-tour of a very small number of select shows would be the more feasible. I don't see it happening though unfortunately. Chris is done. Especially on the touring front. Without Chris it's just not gonna happen.
@TheMetalPigeon2 жыл бұрын
@@j800r_aswell Nice perspective, and yeah I agree with your summary --- your point about Chris being done and not wanting to tour is spot on, but I totally could see these guys maybe one day here getting together the original lineup just for a roundtable retrospective interview or conversation and perhaps that even leading to a Seattle area concert. Or maybe the existing QR lineup inviting all of the former members to a show for a special one-off guest thing like the Scorpions did with their old members in Wacken a few years back. One can hope anyway.

Seeing Geoff with such tactful and thoughtful introspection is refreshing as hell. I could never understand what it was like to be in any of their shoes, so I’ll simply say this was a great interview. Chris’ writing and performing is what drew me into Queensryche, and I stayed once I saw how amazing things happened with them all there. I did and do love Q2K and Tribe as well. Promised Land is in my top 10 concerts of all time, and I LOVED their evolution into HITNF. Wherever their paths take them, I wish them all well in their careers and their lives.

@@davidgotteri Agreed! Their sound did evolve, and I understand some people didn’t care for that. That being said, I think it was an extraordinarily tight rock record, which was in shorter supply then, and still very powerful songs (not an easy task to combine those). Hit The Black nails the heavy side, You handles the JCW fans, Cuckoo’s Nest and Sign Of The Times covers the political, Voice Inside is the introspective highlight, as is Some People Fly. Chris performed a few years ago as accompaniment to Lily Cornell Silver performing Black Gives Way To Blue from AIC, in the background and out of spotlight, and I still felt that power (from her as well, she was amazing).

Talked for little over half an hour catching up. Then, went over to Todd and told him how amazing his vocals were. Todd told him how he first met Tate back in 2008 after a Queensryche show. Queensryche are such a legendary band, massively influential. Now they consist of lawyers, falling out and sueing each other. They're turning into the Journey of metal, which is a real shame as they are too good to go down that sad road. Journey are a joke now and I'd hate to see Queensryche turn into that circus. Here's hoping they bury their differences and get it together. However Chris is a massive piece of that puzzle and he's happy in his new life. Geoffs voice is on another planet

Iron Maiden has a new song ! " then I later found out it was a new band called Queensryche . Through the years with every album release . I was stoked . . My heart broke on Hear in The Now Frontier . It just didn't move me . I personally don't think it could have had constant airplay and promotion . It still wouldn't have done well . So hard to believe that one of the greatest singers in the history of rock started out by just singing along and someone recognized that it sounded “pretty good”. 🤣 Not sure how his level of talent ever hid itself and how he didn’t know. The dude is the best of the best. Always heard that Queensryche had a lot of bad blood. VERY REFRESHING to see no shit talking and credit being given where it is due. The older I get the more important it seems to me that we should treat each other with kindness. It’s easy to talk shit not so easy to be a man and do what Mr. Tate did in this video. This interview was exceptionally good. Right on par with the video Jerry Cantrell did for Gibson. Hats off to Queensryche. Their early music was a huge part of my younger years and enjoyed every note. Thank you guys for making my life better!!!

I have seen so many concerts not many I haven’t seen from Kiss , Dio, Pantera, In Flames, Nevermore, Opeth. You name them I have probably seen them. Queensryche’s Empire tour where they played the entire mindcrime album stands above them all. Even notching out the always impressive RUSH which was always on fire live.

What a terrific interview. I always thought Geoff was a prima donna, but he sounds really genuine and down to earth here.

I went to a late breakfast one day in my small town in western Washington...I sat alone at a small table, and looked at the only other couple in the restaurant, to see Geoff Tate and his wife. I so wanted to ask for a photo, but they were just doing their couple thing, that I totally understand...I just didn't want to interrupt. I've seen Queensyche in concert a couple of times, but seeing Geoff Tate just eating breakfast in my little town "grill", was pretty cool!

The fact Queensryche is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is such a shame! They were among the very best…anywhere!

Something that always impressed me about QR is that they were masters of small venues. I caught them at a couple universities in basketball arenas, and they did something I'd never heard done before (or since). They played QUIETLY. Don't get me wrong, it was still loud, but you weren't being crushed in your seat by a wall of noise.

I did a decade in prison (The 1990’s) and I purchased every Queensryche record as they were released. All I had was music to deal with the prison insanity. Queensryche was a big part of that. I listened to everything that got released from many different artist. I didn’t allow radio stations to dictate what I listened. MTV and radio didn’t give everyone a fair shake. I felt like instead of radio playing the same old stuff over & over again they could have broadened there horizons. I felt there should’ve been enough room on the radio for everyone but that’s not how it worked and a lot of artists were putting out some of the best music of there careers only to get ignored by radio. Queensryche was one of these bands. Thank you Queensryche for being totally different from everyone else. The music took me out of that crazy place and brought me to a serene , tranquil place.
