2002 Japan Pre-Race: Villeneuve hangs out in Tokyo

Thanks for posting this...if Renault stayed in F1, Villeneuve would have had his opportunity to take on Schumacher's dominant Ferrari cars of the early 2000s. I wish Renault would have retained him for the 2005 season after his replacing Trulli toward the end of the 2004 season. Villeneuve should have won more than just 1 WDC...and really should have won the Driver's Championship in his 1st year in Formula 1...1996...if Williams hadn't wanted to reward Damon Hill's service to the team. I NEVER would have thought Honda could derail the careers of my 2 favorite drivers...Villeneuve & Alonso...but they did just that...such a WASTE of GREAT talent. Honda...INCREDIBLE engineers/engineering...I think trying to be TOO perfect in their designs led to the fiery engine detonations...BUT the sounds of the highest rpm engines on the grid were spectacular...until they went KABOOM. So THANKFUL for McLaren-Renault...wish BAR-Renault would have happened for Villeneuve.

Why do you think Williams rallied behind Hill and gave him the 1996 WDC? Doesn't make sense, if anything they probably would have liked to see JV champion, since he was the new kid on the block and Hill wasn't maintained. You don't want 'THE' champion outside your team in the next season, is bad for PR.
