This was my first race I actually went to. I was 11 years old. I was a Dale Jarrett, Tony Stewart & Kurt Busch fan, and boy this was a treat!

2002 probably had more 'Qualifying rained out, so starting grid determined by standings' than any other year I recall.

The first time since 1987 that the fall Atlanta race was not the last race of the Cup season. Whoever thought at that time that that decision would signal the beginning of the end of AMS having two races........

Do you mean was not the actual last race or originally not scheduled as the last race? In 2001 it was scheduled as the last race but Loudon was postponed to the week after Atlanta because of 9/11
@rebelracing88
@rebelracing88 8 жыл бұрын
+GabrielNunes no it was still the the scheduled last race. New Hampshire was run after because of 9/11 but the title was decided in Atlanta.

Late spring early summer and late fall is the worst times down here in the south, too much humidity and if a front is near by we get pop up showers and storms and it'll do it from about noon when it gets hot till about 7pm and it'll rain off and on all day it's terrible 😆

Jeez, that DNQ list. Imagine who'd DNQ if they did run qulifying that day. I know Raines, Cope and Long (How HE made the field is anyone's guess.) definately would not have made it. Interesting how many of those were Busch drivers.

I'm used to NASCAR races rained out, but a rainout and then bringing the cars out to take the white and checkered flags? I'd like to see that used more often when the track isn't soaking wet.
@nickbrincks
@nickbrincks 8 жыл бұрын
They didn't bring them back out though. They called the caution for rain and ended it before the guys came to pit road. NASCAR called for them to take the white and then the checkers, 80 laps early basically. Definitely unique though.
