On a 2.4L, getting to those 2 bolts is the problem. I used a 14mm socket and several wobble extensions. Needed to remove the right front tire and rubber shield and oil filter, also. Attached my 3/8 ratchet next to the alternator. Getting it all back together is no fun.

Jerry I am trying to replace my starter on my 2.4 L 2002 Nissan Frontier. You had some good ideas with the wobble extensions, removing the oil filter and attaching the 3/8 ratchet to the drive along side the alternator. I wanted ask did you have to remove the starter to get access to the electrical connections, then reconnect the electrical before re-bolting the stater back? When you re-bolted the starter did you install the upper or lower bolt first?
