Missed step, put a open ended wrench on the power steering rack while taking off and torquing inner tie rod so you do not ruin steering rack. These are very thin wrenches that fit on a thin cut out on rack for this purpose.

During your video, I noticed you were from Hawaii by the way you were talking lol. I have an 02 Camry V4 SE and I’m going to change the inner and outer tie rods. I was wondering if I needed a new boot since my inner tie rods didn’t come with it, but your vid gave me the answer I was looking for. Right ons, thanks for the informal vid!

Nice work, thanks! A piece of paper folded in half (or quarters if a lot of space) works really well to shim a loose tool like that, too. It's very coarse and will hold it tight.

Never use thread locker on the inner or outer tie rods! The inner is being held in place by the washer bent over the flat and the outer tie rod has the nut to hold it in place! The outer needs to be able to move for alignment purposes...

I was thinking the exact same thing! No thread lock on anything, that's mostly just for beginners that are clueless on how things stay locked in: bent washer here, lock nut there, and cotter pin there

I just did this same thing on a friend's 2006 Ram 1500 and my 2007 Camry. Neither of these vehicles had the washer on the inner tie rod. I noticed the new ones came with the washers, but didn't know what they were for. I did, however, use blue locktite when installing them. Anyone know what the deal is with the washers and why some vehicles don't have them? Great video by the way; I wish I saw this before I did my camry.

Clunked when turning slightly and over bumps. No Greece came out of the Inner and Outer Tie Rods. Could you be referring to the CV Steering shaft? That has Greece inside the boots and also when worn makes a clunking noise when making turns.

@iworkforbudlight No grease coming out is a sign that your inner tie rods were long long gone. It should have grease in the boot. That's the point. The grease keeps the ball joint, that is part of the inner tie rod, from wearing out. Once the grease is gone, your inner tie rod wears out quickly. If you reuse your old boot and don't pack it with grease, expect to have to redo the entire job 6mo later... could be sooner.... also, if you really worked for budlight, you would have mentioned to drink a cold one at some point ;)

Eventually water, gravel, dirt, etc will get in there and wear it out, but it might last pretty long depending on what the conditions are like in your area. This video shows it pretty good how it wears out. You might want to just keep an eye on yours. Periodically, jack up the side with the torn/missing boot and try to shake the wheel from side to side, at 9 and 3 o'clock. If you have a lot of play, it's time to replace the inner tie rod and boot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYSvmZRsq6adppo
