Does anyone tried adding an external oil cooler with this kit instead of an oil filter. My 6.4 oil cooler is clogged and I wonder if this setup will work. Don’t want to spend on the 1,500$ kit as this truck has 300,000 miles.

when installing this is there any need to be concerned with the original oil cooler, or just follow these directions and everything should be good with this instalation?
@JohnJennings-cn3sj8 ай бұрын
Best option is to just spend the $2k on an external air cooler oil cooler and not have to worry anymore or replace it so you got a fresh oil cooler with fresh coolant that’s getting filtered running through it

Went on a 1600 mile round trip two days after install and no problems. Looking forward to cutting open the coolant filter next spring and see what crap may be in it. Next oil change is coming up soon and curious if I can tell any differance in it, saved some from last one.

Thanks for the quick response, I plan on ordering the Kit today. Do you have to drain the coolant before you cut the hose? Also where do you order you oil and coolant filters? What's the easiest way to cut open the filters to see the debris?

Should drain some, wish I had. Have not ordered any extra filters yet. Have not cut one yet but youtube search will show you ideas.

If you hang 2 filters on a china bracket that is fastened at only one end it is going to snap, you can not fasten at both ends because the motor moves.

Why would it need a oil filtration when it already has a oil filter?

The problem is not the filter its how it's installed splicing into two pipes while allowing the majority of coolant to continue unfiltered to the oil cooler , is the problem do you think the sand in the coolant will do a 90 and go through the filter or carry on as it did before and go through the rad and onto the oil cooler. I did a mod by mounting the oil cooler by the battery on the passengers side with hoses for oil and coolant, I installed a 2" strainer which strains all the coolant before it passes through the oil cooler. these hoses allow me to back flush the coolant side of the oil filter as required and you would not believe the amount of sand I take out . Its been three year's now with no problems and my delta is 4degrees to begin and I clean when it gets to 12 degrees

why a by-pass oil filter? i have a added on full on filter that far out performs a factory unit. and it filters full time.
@mikecooley33614 жыл бұрын
Larry Janson because a regular filter won’t filter below 20 micron or so, soot particles are smaller and cause wear. A standard filter has to maintain efficiency so the system still has enough pressure to maintain lubrication throughout. A bypass filters off about 10% of the flow and over time, will cycle all the system oil through it, filtering 100% down to 1~2 micron, reducing wear and extending oil life and maintenance intervals.
