@@aceinternational4788 it most definitely is reliable when bulletproofed. Its a matter of how and who does it with what parts. There's literally thousands of cases regarding this. The 6.4 is entirely different in that there is literally no way to bulletproof them. There wouldn't be a deficated powerstroke help channel that still makes how to's and tips on what it takes to get them in a good state. Sure it takes money, but you can still fix it without having to entirely replace the engine as a whole.

My 6.0's have been the best trucks I personally ever owned. I had a stock 2006 F-250 thatI tuned and daily drove. It was nearing 200k miles and I thought something might go wrong so I sold that truck and got a 6.7 Powerstroke. That truck blew up at 150k miles. The biggest difference is when the 6.7 goes, that's a $15k bill. I ended up getting a 2005 F-350 to replace that truck and once again I have 200k miles but this truck is bullet proofed (minus water pump) with a semi built trans. You can fix a 6.0 for a lot cheaper than a 6.7 and I can actually work on my 6.0. I liked the 6.7 but I'm happier with my 6.0.

Things I have been told to help them live. 1) change oil and coolant at recommended intervals 2) change fuel filer every 10K and only use the Ford factory filter. 3) Dont turn em up. 4) Avoid a lot of short trips. Try to drive 20 miles at highway speed once or twice a week and spool the turbo up. 5) Use a good fuel conditioner at every fill up. 6) plan on spending $1000 if anything goes wrong and keep $3000 in the bank in case the injectors go. I am planning to keep mine another 20 years. I hate the thought of pulling the cab off to rebuild the engine, but at least the engines are normally good rebuild canidates.

when I was looking for a diesel one of the things that turned me off from a powerstroke was the EGR and the head gasket failures, with the duramax was the emissions parts there dumped into them that would constantly fail and also the CP4 failures, and with a cummins was the weak transmissions. I choose the cummins cause I know about their transmissions and engines cause I learned how to work on them in automotive school so I was more comfortable with getting a cummins truck since I will know how to work on one right away.

Just saw this video and yes I have a 2004 6L. I have had a couple of issues with mine but addressed some of those issues early on. I have been stranded once with a 40ft 5th wheel on the back! High pressure oil pump which controls the fuel injectors! Repaired it! I do love that whistle especially when you remove the Cat! Oh did I say that? I live in SoCal so I would never do that! Love the video!!

An alternative to the 6.0 in the Ford platform, get one (the VT365) in an international platform. Easier to work on, similar power and torque numbers (depending on engine family), and some cases an Allison transmission behind it. I got one in an International platform, and so far I like it.

Only thing I saw wrong with the video is that you said the 6.0 is known for heui... but the 7.3s is also a heui. Otherwise pretty accurate. I still love 6.0s to death tho. Not many bottom ends can take the abuse and high rpm that those do. Plus, duramaxs have tons of headgasjet failures amd injectors failures but somehow they avoid the hate. Go ask any diesel shop that works on both. They stud just as many duramax's as they do 6.0s

Now they are regaining popularity because the issues are all known and some brand new trucks are even more fragile

Exactly. And the reason why “bulletproofed” 6.0s seem to blow up anyway, is because the owner doesn’t fully bulletproof it, and they use cheap knock off parts. A properly bulletproofed and updated 6.0, that’s maintained properly, will last just as long and be more capable than a 7.3.

@@robbieoff-road9329 I can say from experience, that you usually can get away with just and EGR update, head studs, billet water pump, 58v FICM, and just regular maintenance for quite a while. That’s what my truck has, and so far I’ve gotten 12k trouble free miles of long trips out of it. I will be finishing it off though, with a BP Diesel oil cooler. But it really just depends on how you care for your truck. Any truck or car will experience mechanical failures if you don’t maintain it. So just be vigilant, and if you know what to look for, you can have it fixed before it results in a catastrophic engine failure.

I had one but sold it when I joined the army (stationed in Hawaii and forget about a diesel truck here) And I loved it. It was a pain in the ass but it was MY pain in the ass. I had to replace the oil cooler, remove the EGR, EGR cooler, replace a couple other parts and take it to a voodoo witch doctor but after that she was amazing! Had all the power I needed, did pretty good in the mud and snow, had a long bed so I could put whatever I wanted back there and still had room. She was big, loud, and in charge. With all of that said I was still occasionally get an issue with death rattling and I’m not sure what it was but I think maybe 4 or 5 times it had an issue where even if I pinned the accelerator it wouldn’t rev about 2-3k and would pump out white or black (some times both) smoke. I’d have to park (yes happened while driving a couple times) turn the truck off and restart it and it’s be just find. And of course my CAC tubing blew off the turbo a couple times but a new boot fixed that. All in all, it was a good truck but you just had to give it a little extra love and some hate (pretty sure my truck was sentient and had a degradation kink, she just worked good after I told it how much I hated it and how I would drive it into a tree for the insurance money.

I replace the short block with a Asheville Engines short block an replace the heads with ringed heads the put in all new bullet proof diesel components for the 6.0.
