I think we will. Many people have reconsidered their priorities and got their bearings rearranged. Before that we were excited that the decade will be incredible, easy, no grind needed, that it's going to be simple to be rich and be able to buy a BMW X6 with cash 3 years from college. Alas, that's not happening. Folks are starting to find actual hobbies and smaller pasttimes again that they can do at home. Visiting their parents' houses and finding stuff in the attic or the garage and fiddling with it because there's no social pressure to spend time outside doing 'fun' stuff or traveling to Barcelona. From my point of view, 2020 has shown the world that the world is not that difficult and that simple pleasures in life have more meaning. Staying safe, with your loved ones, and doing personal projects. Not losing time 'hustling' for something that has no meaning. A sort of a country life, even in a city. Yeah

Launch mode actually has a burnout mode so if you experienced heavy loss of traction that's almost certainly what you were in. When prepping to go into launch mode one step is holding down the gas pedal. If you mash the pedal quickly you get into burnout mode - this is a full clutch dump purposely designed to break traction - great for doing something like warming up the tires. If you press the pedal in more slowly you engage launch mode which will feather in the clutch at launch making every effort to maintain maximum traction.

6:20 I know that remote. My family had that same Craftsman garage door system on both garage doors at our old house in Nevada. We installed it around 2000, meaning that it’s more or less a period-correct accessory for this car. XD
@keeleye72253 жыл бұрын
I clicked on the timestamp and laughed - that's exactly the same kind of remote that was attached to my 330ci I used to have.
@TBustah3 жыл бұрын
@@keeleye7225 The garage door remote clipped to the sun visor? That’s what I was talking about. I may as well also take this opportunity to explain something for the casual observer, in case somebody else who replies doesn’t know: a “period-correct accessory” is exactly what it says on the tin: an automotive accoutrement that is correct to the period that the vehicle was manufactured and/or a period it was operated in. You often see them on old cars at shows to give them a human element, to make it seem almost like the vehicle was driven to the show from that period in time. I was first exposed to the concept like I was to a lot of automotive stuff: through the air-cooled Volkswagen scene. Those guys LOVE period-correct accessories, probably because those cars had so many accessories available due to their popularity and be fact that they didn’t come from the factory with many creature comforts. Air-conditioners that are hung on the window, heater boxes tucked under the dash (my 1970 Beetle came with one, but I didn’t use it much because it gave off a weird smell), fender spats, tool kits designed to fit like a hub cap on the spare tire, mileage badges, and (of course) those famous porcelain flower vases that clip onto the dashboard. Of course, it doesn’t necessarily have to be from when the car was new: hot rod accessories from the scene’s heydey in the sixties would definitely count for a 1930s car turned into a hot rod later on. An accessory only has to be correct to the period you’re going for. I don’t quite have the imagination to see a world thirty years from now where owners of BMWs from the early 2000s are tracking down satellite radio antennas, FasTrak transponders, or five-disc CD changers, but that garage door opener will definitely qualify if it happens.

This is one that I felt from the bottom of my heart. Thank you Mr Regular. Story time: A few years ago I was in a position to buy a decent condition E46 M3 manual. It was up for £9000 (~$14000) with 55k on the clock. Annoyingly the price doubled 12 months later. Had I bought it, I doubt I would have had the common sense to sell it, would have gone broke running it. I was infatuated by that shape and that car to my own detriment. Except that all changed when I drove one, actually drove 4 of them to see if it was just a bad example but they were all equally as crap as each other. I went in expecting it to be as tight as a drum being an "ultimate driving machine" but it was just awful. The gear shift was sloppy, the steering was lazy, the exhaust only droned (standard setup) and the whole car felt like a pig. After speaking to the dealer, turns out it was my own fault that the car felt like that. My car at the time was an NB Miata so my perception of how a car should feel was warped massively. Conclusion: Don't ever meet your heroes, some dreams are better than reality and always test drive before buying a car.

I’d probably twist the lesson of yours around. I’d say go and meet your heroes, and be prepared to be disappointed, but be glad that you were awakened, because it beats naivety.

Launch Control has 2 modes - if you slam on the gas you activate 'burnout mode' - deliberately there for warming up tires or just showing off - if you depress the gas a little slower you get a full blown launch mode that feathers the clutch and factors in data from wheel speed sensors to optimize acceleration.

I think I remember James May(or one of the 3) saying that that engine was probably one of the last great things BMW ever did, and I'm inclined to agree. I don't know if it's nostalgia or sorrow that we miss these kinds of BMWs, but they've become caricatures of themselves and they just don't have the fizz anymore. That wouldn't be such a bad thing if this wasn't such a damn good car.

I like the fact you've actually covered the fact that it's more to do with their preconceptions and the fact they're more likely to notice 1 bad BMW driver and completely ignore a dozen other bad drivers.
