Absolutely. My friends and I, back then, it was about the person, no other factor. Had 3 of them trust me enough to share their secret, and it changed nothing between us. One, who I met as a male, stood as my wife's matron of honor, at our wedding. I was in the waiting room when she had her surgery. First thing I said, when sje woke up? Love you, little sister. 23 years later, that hasn't changed. And it never will.

Your words 4 minutes in cut into my heart because I knew that feeling very well myself. Queerness was a rarity in my neck of the woods but being out of place in any regard in my school days made me an easy target for bullies. You had me at your 90's reality check. I remember playing in the woods on rainy days, and sitting in my room playing Nintendo by myself. And walking the shoreline catching fish. All the terrible things that existed and happened have been mostly forgotten. I own 4 80's and 90's cars and they remind me of the vehicles of the time that are now mostly long gone. I even bought and mostly restored an old Ford truck that is kinda like the one my dad had when I was little. It was an 86 and I was 2 then. Its one of those things that keeps good memories going. May your next car be just as fun as this. What do they say, "Que Sera, Sera?" I dunno I'm just saying things now.

It's never about the car you drive, the bike you ride or the plane you fly. It's seeing Pennsylvanian mountains in the night for the first time, as you drive from Chicago to NYC, while maybe a person you love sleeps in the passenger seat. It's calling up your friend that you haven't spoken to in years, who sold you his old car, when you were really struggling in life. Experiences of people and places that truly meant something in the moment and thus you remember them fondly. They're etched into the fabric of your car and once you move on to something else, you will still remember that car. Memories that built you into who you are today, are tied to what moved you to and from those experiences. Everyone deserves to figure out who they are and their place in this world. And I get the impression that most people who watch your videos get that. I hope you understand just how much your commentary and humor has meant to me over the years.

Your description of the lively Sera five-speed manual driving experience reminds me of the Corolla SR5s which were occasionally rented for in-country trips (government work) in Thailand in the late 80s and early 90s. If the planned trip involved three or more people, or if an automatic was specified on the rental order, a nice, comfortable, somewhat larger Toyota sedan usually showed up. If there were only one or two of us, sometimes, if we were very lucky, the local Hertz agency would send a white Corolla SR5. I don’t know the exact engine and transmission combo, but those right hand drive Toyota SR5s were every bit the equal of my own 1985 Mark II VW GTI.

Back in the day I met a guy who had spent pretty good money to swap a 5MT into an '91 Corolla that was otherwise bog-stock. Bear in mind that this one mod made the car illegal, the registration could not be changed from AT to MT, and resale value was gone. And I thought, what sort of fool does that? And then I took a ride in his car. That humble little 1.6 went down the road at least 50% quicker with the removal of that large, heavy, power-absorbing device known as the automatic transmission. I had always looked down on Toyotas n/a engine, 4AGE excepted, until then.

So happy for you, Bryan!! I've been a fan for so many years and I never thought you'd let yourself show so personally like this which seems ironic but the internet can be a scary place. Just to let you know, your truest fans are unconditional. I'm trans and bi myself and I've been here from day one. My point is that you've done your best to attract all us degenerates, and you don't have to hide from us.

Its wishing I could re live the 90’s of my youth, but different or as my now mid-30 something self that keeps me hanging onto my old 93 Volvo. Its like a time machine to a happier, simpler time, even though if I was in my 30’s in the 90’s I probably wouldn’t have the rose tinted glasses about that time either. Well put mr. Regular and GLWS!

Always love the reviews and the content, even if there might be some captions with "corrections" later. The best of Mr. Regular's reviews always touch more on the greater context of the vehicle, rather than the vehicle itself. In this case, the context is more the care and attention given under his stewardship of the Sera, and I have to ask: are you sure you want to sell this car? The affection is palpable as you move from point to point in the review. Don't give up something to regret it later!

At least the person who had it repainted chose a neat color. This video just goes to show how much, when you needed it most, this car was loved. And there will always be cars for people that will being them that sense of anemoia: that feeling of a nostalgia for a time you never knew. It may be that you didn't yet exist in that time, or it could be that the time you have a nostalgia for is different than the time you lived through. A feeling of nostalgia for a time that could have, and probably should have been. I'm glad that you no longer feel that this kind of emotional support car is necessary for you and I'm sure it'll be hard to hand over the keys and watch it leave, but just know that you're giving them the keys to their own little slice of the 90's that could have been and maybe that's what they need now. What a cool car.

I've been watching your channel for many years - the first one I saw was the minivan in what I assume was your parents' garage, and even then it was obvious this channel was going places. Glad to know I wasn't wrong! I love the message in this one - just be yourself, and f*** everyone else! It took me until I was 34 to buy an NA Miata because of what people might think... "it's a HAIRDRESSER'S car!" or "Real men buy Mustangs!" I've wanted one for YEARS because they are one of the best roadsters EVER MADE; 50/50 weight distribution, reliable electrical and mechanicals, easy to service, finger-pull door handles, pop-up headlights....you know what? after I bought one (low miles, no rust, "classic red" with tan leather and vinyl top, LSD) everything I was worried about was entirely in my head - not once have I had a single disparaging comment from anyone. I love the car, and it really gets a LOT more attention at car shows than I ever thought possible. I've spent hours in the car just driving through rural NH - either solo, or with my girlfriend... either way, it's all about joy and doing what you love; it's not just a car, it's happiness on wheels. Be yourself and F*** anyone who gets in your way or thinks less of you - Feel bad for THEM, because chances are, they're secretly jealous of you and the only reason they bought that jacked-up BRO-DOZER that gets 6 MPG and costs $500 to fill is to HIDE THEIR INSECURITIES. .

Bryan. Just want to say thank you for having the strength and courage to share that witj us. Wife and I have always enjoyed the channel, and that isn't going to change. Your story reminds me of a couple of my friends in high school, 93 grad myself, wife in 92, and I'll be the first to say it, I would have gladly hung out with you. Would also have been that junior or senior, asking if you wanted to hit BK, before heading back for MB practice. Trumpet/coronet player. Did MB and Jazz band every year. To this day, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, none of that mattered. That we had each other's backs, when the chips were down was the important thing. 30 years later, we still do. Love and Respect Bryan. If we ever meet, I'll be honored to shake your hand.

If you'd find one at reasonable price it would be rotten with rust, like most of Japanese cars of this vintage are.. You either accept a project car that costs more in repairs than it's worth or pay premium for mint one. If you want to own a cool car on the cheap in todays world I recommend learning to weld and do (major) rust repairs.

Ahh the 90s, such a great time to be had, and all before camera phones and social media thank god. As one of the ones who came out mid high-school in '91, and bore the consequences of that choice, your choice to keep yourself safe is not something to regret. It's great that you're in a place where you feel safe enough to do so now. Thanks for increasing visibility.

the 90's like the 80's had a really big problem with projection just like the 50's did. And most people's memories of those times are highly stylized highlight reels because of it, kinda like a never ending commercial because remembering all the things that sucked about it feels too negative.

RE: "Grounding things in the engine bay that don't need to be grounded": That _can_ make a big difference, because carmakers skimp on grounding, and the problem is getting worse over time as cars have more and more electrically-driven accessories. My girlfriend's headlights dim when she turns the steering wheel; they always have, ever since the car was new, because the car has electric power steering. If I had more time to spare, I'd add an extra ground between the alternator and battery to try to minimize that.
