2003 Camry - Timing Codes (P0016) / Budget Scantool

We have a 2003 Toyota Camry setting a P0016, Ckp Cmp correlation Bank 1. The car idles fine, but I believe it sometimes acts up when driving. I'm trying out a new scan tool, the Otofix D1 lite a real budget-friendly scan tool. Hope you enjoy!

By playing with the triggers on the scope you can actually see the timing chain movement/slack while the engine is running. Refer to carter's diagnostics video on triggers. Thank you.

Ye I'm a big fan of Topdon too! I do find it helps to have multiple brands when something is not working just to make sure it's not the tool.

@@advancedleveldiagnostics Same with key programmers. We have mostly Autels but the best of all of them is the Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro. We don't use it as much because it's token based and comes in a huge PITA case. We have had a handful of cars the heavy hitters wouldn't program. We fired up a cheap Chinese clone knockoff and that actually programmed the fob. You never know unless you try. I contacted Topdon to see if they had a maintainer that didn't have to be plugged in. We are mobile like you so that would be nice to have. Other than a jump box I haven't found anything.

Nice! Fyi the wire connector on the bracket near the alternator is for the crank sensor, cam sensor is on opposite side engine block. Easier than poking around diagrams.

Hi why do you disconnect the oil control valve when you run a cam crank correlation on the oscilloscope ?

The reason it's done is to eliminates the possibility of the solenoid being activated, and changing the timing. I don't really feel it's necessary I just do it because a lot of the known good waveforms I use say Unplugged.

The computer I'm using is the Toughbook CF-33 I Just don't have the keyboard connected. Pico 7 runs great on it, it is an i5 7th gen with 8GB ram. Most early 2000 Toyotas seem to be some type of weird canbus. My Autel and Topdon's wont read the VIN, but after typing the VIN they have no problem afterwards.
