Since it’s an inductive style crank sensor ( downside for that sensor is they only give signal when the engine is turning) how do you check for integrity of the cranksensor circuit? This manufacturer desided: let’s pick the maf sensor for telling us that the engine is running. And if then there is not yet a signal from the crank sensor, we should set a crank sensor code. Oh and if the engine is on ( that’s what the maf was reporting ) then the alternator should work by now, so throw the battery light on….. the all data info was great from the start. Your diagnosis was right , and quick:)! Mazda does things a little bit different than others….

GREAT VIDEO... ANYTIME I GET MASS-AIR FLOW CODES I START WITH A SENSOR SIMULATOR TEST. FOR ONE IT SHOWS ME I HAVE A GOOD CIRCUIT ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE ECU/PCM .THEN FROM WHAT I SEND (EITHER VOLTAGE OR FREQUENCY) TO THE ECU/PCM YOU CAN SEE IF IT'S ACTUALLY FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY . IT SAVES A SHIT LOAD OF TIME AND IM NOT EATING A MASS AIR SENSOR. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT ITS ALWAYS GREAT TO GET A VIDEO FROM YOU !!!🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Correlation between the MAF, the CKP, and the charging voltage being used to set a crank sensor code and a battery light. Kind of like the older GM cars with the TPS and MAP sensor correlation causing a code to be set for the opposite. Good job man. I just found your channel and love to watch as you move quick and your thought process is very similar to my own. Will definitely be watching through your videos.

Very strange deduction by the computer system to flag the crank sensor instead of the MAF sensor which was causing the problem. Many people would simply jump to changing the crank sensor. I wonder what code would be present if you had changed the crank sensor? If it did still set a crank sensor code after replacing it many people would be running around in a circle. It's good to see a smart technician looking at multiple aspects instead of jumping to a snap conclusion. Great video showing how a fault code is an indicator of what the computer thinks is wrong.

Do these engines use the 5V reference signal to drive the MAF and CKP output? I wonder if the 5V ref supply (or ground) was noisy or intermittently failing with high resistance.... Perhaps the 5V ref had partially shorted to ground through a bad MAF giving weird secondary symptoms?
@advancedleveldiagnostics10 ай бұрын
I don't know if they share a ref, but I would think if it was shorted the computer would see a problem with the signal and not have an RPM Signal. Here I had an RPM signal. I think that the MAF was just reporting voltage when the key was on and the car saw no crank signal so it set the code.
@mbabazijohnson631510 ай бұрын
Good ideas bro
@stanleysemchenko407910 ай бұрын
This is probably exactly why it had the battery light on as well.. the computer thought the engine was running and didnt see anything from the alternator. Crazy.
@arthuraucar369610 ай бұрын
I had a problem similar to this one, but this one was throwing a p0340, camshaft sensor circuit. It turned out to be that the signal was occurring at the wrong time. It had a 2.0 I believe. The crank sensor is adjustable, so I was able to fool the computer by sliding the crank sensor one notch. It's not the right way to fix it, but I understand he drove the car a couple more years until he got rid of it.
@advancedleveldiagnostics10 ай бұрын
No parts required fix!
@arthuraucar369610 ай бұрын
Yeap..! It was basically a correlation code, however it was throwing a p0340. Replaced sensor, checked wiring etc. There is A TSB on four cylinder engines where the sprocket bolt comes partially loose, and crank to cam correlation is lost. I believe you replace that bolt, and overtorque past factory specs because there is no keyway, and the cam gear moves.

Was it seeing the maf voltage and thinking hey that’s running voltage where’s my crank signal? Hence the crank sensor code?
@advancedleveldiagnostics9 ай бұрын
Exactly!
@emmcee4765 ай бұрын
Was it that it actually started and ran very briefly that made you think it may not be the CKP? Actual bad CKP would mean no start/run at all?

@advancedleveldiagnostics10 ай бұрын
Well at least I know I'll have a job next year when it fails🤣
The code set criteria for the CKP code is 4.2 sec of seeing a MAF input without seeing a CKP signal. Since the MAF was bad it was reporting voltage so the PCM thinks the car is on without a CKP signal so it sets the CKP code.
