With your video i was able to fix my dads 2005 gmc z71 by picking the coil ground with a needle and jump to alternator for ground and the truck started just as you said it would. my 78 year old father said he was impressed with my skills, and i said it was because of Advanced Level Diagnostics video. Thank you so much.

Ground is common to both banks down near the left motor mount bolts. I've had quite a few corroded off. Good diagnostic.

I love the one braided cable on the firewall that is already broken and missing. Those cables should never have been used on a vehicle. This is what I don't like about LED test lights. It takes just a miniscule amount of current flow to light one as opposed to an incandescent bulb.
@advancedleveldiagnostics
@advancedleveldiagnostics Жыл бұрын
💯 agree! The test light I am using is an incandescent one that pulls 150ma. The only times I use LED is when I want to check relay control without actuating the relay.

Great informative vid I might be having the same issues now with my 04 Silverado gonna use this vid for reference also does it matter where u ground the injectors to new ground to engine or frame, would it be better to run ground to neg terminal on battery?
@advancedleveldiagnostics

I think chassis ground is fine as long as you test it before.

I rebuild alot of these 5.3s 2000-2006 gmc/chevy grounds are all in the same place. Theres 2 up top on back of engine and theres two on driverside lower part of block toward the front of engine.
@reedcarpenter2994

Do you consider them good motors? What mileage usually before you do the rebuilds?
@joesmo4749
@joesmo4749 Жыл бұрын
@reedcarpenter2994 I like them 2000-2006 is the gen 3 I like those because they don't have active fuel management or vvt like the gen 4s which starts in 2007 and up. If the motor hasn't really been maintained like it should have been usually around 220,000 miles. But if the engine has been maintained I've seen them go way past 200,000 miles. My cousin has one in a tahoe they did the maintenance religiously and no lie it just rolled over to 500,000 miles, which blowed my mind!
@reedcarpenter2994
@reedcarpenter2994 Жыл бұрын
@@joesmo4749 that’s good. Is it a very expensive engine to rebuild? I’m looking at one with 200 k on it. Most used trucks under 20k seem to have around that on them and I figured might as well look at one with a good history of being reliable. I’m looking at a 2003 5.3 z71.

@reedcarpenter2994 good trucks, if you can find a good machine shop you should be able to build between $1200-$1500. I've got a good machine shop I've been using for many years. You can reuse the camshaft just check the lobes. I usually get the heads reworked the block checked with new cam bearings, rods checked and crank checked and polished up. My machine shop gets my engine kits and it comes with new pistons, rings, bearings all new gaskets. I usually put new pushrods in, a new oil pump is mandatory, new head bolts is mandatory. You will also reuse rocker arms just check them individually. Summit has the torque specs on there website for gen 3 ls style 5.3
