If the Lincolns air suspension had been at the correct height, and not down on the bump stops, I bet the Neon would've faired even worse!
@carlm88212 ай бұрын
Totally agree. They should have had the Lincoln sit at its normal height, be it on standard coils or blocks for more ‘real-world’ results.

This clip is the reason why everyone drives SUVs today
@akj23872 ай бұрын
That was just 30mph! Do you think this sort of a result would still be applicable in today's world? Take a compareable 7 year old compact sedan, and an full size SUV 2017 Audi A4 vs 2024 Ford Expedition? Would love to see a modern reconstruction on this test. Especially so cos everyone loves to drive round in big massive SUVs nowadays.
@isaiahwallace052 ай бұрын
tbh i think the audi would fare much, much better than this neon did. i mean, even in 2017 when that audi was new, automobile safety was still so much more advanced than it was in 1996. and while the cars have gotten bigger, thanks to better building/designing practices, often times they’re lighter than their predecessors, sometimes by hundreds of pounds. according to google, the new navigator is, at its heaviest, maybe ~200 lbs heavier than the 03, while the audi can be as much as 1000 lbs heavier

"big massive" SUVs. Your own person subjective opinion on what is "big massive" means nothing in the real world. If you wanna have this argument, it would be more accurate to say everyone loves to drive around in tiny small go karts nowadays. SUVs aren't getting drastically bigger than they were originally, but cars are definitely getting smaller, and unfortunately it doesn't stop there, people also love riding around on electric scooters while having no clue about the laws of the road or about the laws of physics.

I look at those NHTSA crash test and a commun mistake they always tend to do is that the front passengers seats are always ajusted way to close to the dash. In the lincoln, front passenger seat is almost ajusted way to close to the dash bord. I dont know of anybody who can be confortable sitting so close to the dash... and in the Neon same thing. In the owner manuel, it is well indicated that it is dangerous to ajuste the seat so near the dash. As you can see, in both véhicules, the passenger nees and leg have banged in the dash cause sitting to close. But in a crash of a Neon and Navigator, it is noticable that the passenger had knees enjuries... But why are they always ajusting the seats way to close to that dash board? A lot of the NHTSA are done that way, does it realy refflect's the reality of the way peaple sit in a car??? Hopping to have some answers for this..

The Lincoln needs a new bumper, headlights and new radiator, perhaps a front axle alignment and its back on the road 🛣️

the 1996 dodge neon was rated Poor by the IIHS while the 2003 Lincoln Navigator aka the Ford Explorer was rated Good by the IIHS

The Lincoln Navigator is related to the Expedition, not the Explorer. In the mid-00's the comparable Lincoln was the Aviator. www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/Lincoln/aviator-4-door-suv/2005#moderate-overlap-front-original-test

The Neon is an absolute liability to its own occupants on the roadway. I’m a fan of the SRT4 Neon as they are iconic, however I would never want to drive one off track (or even on track without a roll cage). This demonstrates an upside to modernizing vehicles. This crash test is a benefit as no one will get this as a first car as a 16 y/o lol. The Lincoln - I see your point. Still outdated with crash test ratings against a car in its weight class. Cheers.
@kylebeach23162 ай бұрын
@@RC33333I drive a vehicle from 2011 and if I were too ever get in a serious crash with a vehicle that weigh twice as much as my car I'd be in similar conditions too the neon. That's why everyone is buying suvs, minivans, and trucks cause they feel more safe in them then they would in a smaller economy car.

@@kylebeach2316 I agree completely. It’s why I got rid of my speed 3 as much as I throughly enjoyed and cherished the car. It wouldn’t stand a chance against a new Range Rover, Navigator, or Suburban

@@RohanSanjith yeah, 21 y/o cars were not structurally designed to withstand an impact from a 4500 lb SUV. Even the same class vehicles. I have a 2017 Focus RS that has good crash test ratings but they only test at 33 mph. The Saabs did it best crash testing at 70 mph plus, I’m not sure why they test at such low speeds it’s not realistic.
