7:50 I don't know how despite being a huge yankee fan my whole life how I never payed much attention to or even noticed Henry the Boston owner. After seeing this "Moneyball" actually did a very good of casting him during this era.

Pedro vs Clemens at Fenway October 2003 was a far cry from the 1999 matchup

6:54 Given what would happen at Yankee Stadium in the next season's LCS, this statement is pretty rich.

Here's something else I just uncovered. At Fenway Park in the regular season, the Red Sox hit .316 in 81 games and averaged over 6.5 runs per game. In 5 playoff games, they're hitting a paltry .201 combined. And in the three LCS games at Yawkey Way vs the Yanks, the Sox only hit .200 with only 8 runs scored. In 10 playoff games overall, they're hitting .230 with 32 runs scored (3.2 rpg), a far cry from their .291 mark in the regular season and scoring almost 6 runs per game. It's amazing the Red Sox are still playing despite those offensive numbers. Maybe Yankee Stadium will wake the bats up. They hit .311 in the 2 games at the Bronx earlier, so we'll see if it's still the case when they play Game 6.

I guess the cold Fenway weather was affecting their bats in the 2003 postseason. The fact that the RSOX were able to beat the Athletics in the ALDS was a miracle, with the way the RSOX bat was cold overall.

Hard to believe that this same Yankees starting rotation was so bad vs Anaheim last year yet they’ve held up amazingly well vs Boston’s big bats
@redpillfreedom6692 Жыл бұрын
And the Angels didn't have a Manny or Ortiz equivalent in their lineup that year, nobody who was a big time masher. They were more of a "death by a thousand cuts" type of offense. The Angels just had the Yankees number for some reason

His statement would prove to be pretty ironic given what would happen a year later.

As a result of Sunday’s rainout, Game 4 was H2H with Falcons vs Rams on Monday Considering MNF was a 36-0 blowout, the ratings were a lopsided win for MLB that night (which is a far cry from nowadays)
@chrisuncleahmad666 Жыл бұрын
After 20+ H2H games this season it was only a matter of time before tempers flared between these teams But I didn’t think the animosity would flare up to THAT degree however

Manny's reaction to that inside pitch was a total bitch move. Wasn't even that far inside. And of course, it just flared things up again and led to the infamous Pedro/Zimmer moment.

Red Sox vs. Yankees: Round 22 (aka Game 3). 9 Cy Young awards combined between Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez in this pivotal Game 3 of the ALCS with each team having one win in the bag. And this game will be historic......for all the wrong reasons. Johnny Damon was back in the lineup and he singled in the first while scoring on Manny's 2-run single. The Yankees answered with single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings (the latter being Jeter's blast to Landsdowne St) to tie it. Then, in the 4th, a walk and two doubles put NYY ahead 3-2. And that is when the fireworks started. Pedro threw a fastball that hit Karim Garcia in the back and the Yankees were very upset. A double play followed (scoring a run), where Garcia took down Todd Walker. The benches cleared partially and Martinez was pointing to some of the Yankees, especially Posada. In the bottom half, Clemens threw a pitch high to Manny Ramirez, and Manny took exception to it, and the benches cleared again. In the melee, Yankee Bench Coach--and former Sox manager--Don Zimmer took a swipe at Pedro, and Pedro knocked him on the ground. Both teams and security came to check on Zimmer, and he was able to get up on his own power. Thank heavens there was no ear biting in this one a la Tyson-Holyfield. If this was a boxing match, there would've been a disqualification. But this was a baseball game, and being Game 3 of the LCS, no one was ejected. Clemens settled down and kept the Sox in check, leaving after 6 innings with the Yankees leading 4-2. Mariano Rivera pitched two scoreless innings and the Yankees won this emotional game, 4-3 to go up 2-1 in games on the Judge's scorecards. Before the bottom of the 9th, though, more problems. Jeff Nelson and RF Garcia got into a heated exchange with one of the Boston groundscrewmen and the Sox employee was arrested. Like I said, this game was historic and not for the right reasons. As for why Zimmer tried to attack Pedro, he didn't like Pedro trying to hit Garcia near the head. It reminded him of a beaning in 1953 when he was in the Dodgers' AAA team. Zimmer got hit in the head and was in a coma for 2 weeks. He nearly died in the hospital and still had a metal plate for the rest of his life. Fortunately, Zim recovered and would go on to be in baseball for over 6 decades thereafter. On Sunday, perhaps Mother Nature was angry at both teams for what transpired, and decided to rain down on Fenway, postponing the game. So..... Red Sox vs. Yankees: Round 23 (aka Game 4). .....the game was played on Monday, and Tim Wakefield responded with 7 gutsy innings, striking out 8 and allowing just one run. Todd Walker hit his fifth home run in the postseason. Trot Nixon also homered as well and the Red Sox hung on for the 3-2 win. On the Judges' cards after 4 games, it's tied at two wins each. Red Sox vs. Yankees: Round 24 (aka Game 5) Having missed Game 4 because of injuries he suffered in the 9th inning melee in Game 3, Karim Garcia was back in the lineup, and he responded with a 2-run single in the 2nd off starter Derek Lowe. David Wells pitched 7 brilliant innings, in raising his postseason record to 10-2. The Yankees won, 4-2, and now will take a 3 games to two series lead to the Bronx. If the Red Sox-Cubs dream World Series will come true, the Sox will have to win two in a row in the House that Ruth Built (aka the House of Pain to Sox fans). The Cubs need just one win in front of their fans.

In the 1999 ALCS, there was also some drama between a RSOX employee and a Yankees player (just like in this game 3 of this 2003 ALCS between the RSOX employee and the Yankees player). Ironically, it was Jeff Nelson involved both times in the drama with RSOX employees in the 1999 ALCS and this 2003 ALCS
@hmhm856 Жыл бұрын
It doesnt have to just be RSOX-Cubs World Series, fans would be more than happy with Yankees-Cubs, or RSOX-Marlins (with the RSOX having a chance to break their curse). But please, NO YANKEES-MARLINS (that would be a DISASTER in terms of ratings and attraction)

Honestly, Pedro didn't even throw Zimmer down. Not really anyway. Zimmer lunged and would have hit the dirt regardless because of his momentum. All Pedro did was put his hands on Zimmer's head
