I'm glad I found this video. I have a 2005 3.5L Santa Fe with a bad water pump. I just did a timing belt/water pump replacement on my 95 Ranger and thought I might be able to do the same thing on the Santa Fe. After doing some online research, and watching a few KZbins, I came to the conclusion that it's time to retire the Santa Fe. If it were not for the vehicles other problems I might want to do this, but I'm sure it would be a waste of time and money. I'm going to stay away from Hyundai's moving forward. Thanks.

How do you lock the cams in place? Are cams under pressure from valve springs?

You don't. As far as I know there is no tool for locking them. You have to follow they way I did it in the video.

my wife's heater core hoses where not connected to motor when they replaced the timing belt do you know where they connect to

I am doing the same in 2006 Santa Fe. Of course, RH cams slipped. Which direction are you turning back the RH bank cams on the marks?

So typically if you're trying to put the belt back on and the cam slips in a direction violently as they usually do, you just basically put a ranch on it and back it up to whatever direction is centered. You never really want to try and go all the way around in a circle You always want to try and do the least amount of movement. So it's fine if you just put a wrench on it and move it back into place
