I've got a 2004 f150 4.6 and I disconnected everything your video suggested, raised the engine to the firewall but there wasn't enough room to remove the old motor mount on the passenger side. Tried all kinds of tricks to no avail. Transmission was raised as well. At least I replaced the transmission mount! Looks like the manifold would need to be removed for enough room but I'm not game for that.
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Bo, sorry to hear you are having trouble with the engine mounts. We have the same 2004 F150 with a 4.6L engine so it's definitely possible using the methods we showed in the video. The engine needs to be raised as high as possible at the firewall area and the transmission needs to be raised to the underbody. It is not necessary to remove the intake manifold, just the throttle body. The passenger side mount is a little tricky to rotate it to the right angle in order for it to drop down next to the trans cooler lines and slip by the sway bar. Apologies it was tough to film it from a good angle but it just takes a little time to turn it the right way. You will definitely have enough room if the engine/trans is high enough. Please let us know how your project goes, Cheers!

Yes it is possible!! I have a 2005 4.6L RWD, and just completed changing the mounts using this video as my guide. Didn't want to, but had to remove the oil dipstick tube to get the driver side mount out. I angled the motor bottom pin up towards the engine and pulled the mount towards the rear of the vehicle and it came out easily. What I can say is I also added a jack under the bell housing area of the transmission and this allowed me to really play with angling the engine. Hope this helps someone who reads it!!
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Pedro, appreciate you sharing your techniques. We definitely agree that this is not an easy repair but it's very doable, even in the driveway like us. That dipstick is fun to get the angle right 🙄 The key is getting the engine/trans high enough so that everything slips out. We are confident Bo will get it figured out. Thanks again for hanging out, Cheers!

thanks for the video! im guessing the aftermarket air intake is throwing me off visual wise, but this is the same method for an 08 f150 5.4? also did yours not require hydraulic motor mounts?
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the confusion with the K&N filtercharger setup. The 5.4L is very similar, we showed the differences towards the end of the video, not sure if you saw that? It is very similar, you still need to remove the throttle body to get the height for clearance. In regards to the engine mounts, I think the later models 06-08 had the fluid filled mounts. However, they are still the same exact shape and style so the removal and installation will be the same. Even some of the aftermarket companies only offer the solid mounts for all the years. Good luck on your F150 project, Cheers!

That was much harder than I expected. My nephew owns a 2010 2WD with a 4.6 2V engine. He wants to change his engine mounts just because of age. He may want to rethink after watching this because no sign of engine movement occurs when braked in drive. Have you regreased your drive shaft yet? That made a huge difference in deleting the bump he was feeling.

@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Cowboy, thanks for the comments, glad the video is helping you out with your F150. We do realize there are a few additional steps with the 4x4 version but it sounds like you got things under control. I would also check the transmission mount as well if you are still getting some movement after replacing the engine mounts. If the transfer case is actually hitting the cab (body) of the truck then you have bad cab mounts, which means the body is sitting too close to the TC/driveline. Let us know how the repair goes and what you discover is the issue. Cheers!

We have been very happy with the K&N Filter Charger kit. It's been on the truck for over 200k miles. Not sure how many times we have cleaned the filter but it's been at least a few dozen. K&N says their filter are good for a million miles so it should out live the truck. We chose to go with the plastic version which is a little more expensive just to keep the intake temps cooler. The metal pipe ones get very hot under the hood. Here's a link to the product page - www.knfilters.com/57-2557-performance-air-intake-system Have fun with your F150, thanks again for hanging out, Cheers!

Hey Tim, thanks for the question. I would plan on setting aside the day to tackle everything. It got dark on use but we were filming so everything takes 4 times as long. Just have 8 hours available and if you finish early then at least you won't be rushed. The 2003 is the previous generation truck but the layout and style is very similar as Ford hasn't changed much over the years. This video will provide you with the tips to get things done for sure. did you remove your front axle assembly mine is right under the oil pan
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Daily Dabs, thanks for the question. We haven't had to perform this repair on a 4WD truck so we don't have first hand knowledge of the exact steps. The main difference for a 4WD truck is the removal of the transfer case driveshaft in order to not bind things when lifting the motor up and giving you enough room on the driver's side. Just remember to MARK the driveshaft BEFORE removal so you can put it back together in the same position. There is an Index-Marking slot on the driveshaft flange where you can add your paint marker. Be sure to support the driveshaft and do not let it hang. Based on our research you do not need to remove the front axles in order to replace the motor mounts. All of the other steps in our video should help you get things done. Please be sure to let us know how the repair goes and what actual differences you find when comparing our 2WD tutorial. Good luck on your F150 repair, Cheers!

If i just do driver side do i need to take out starter?
@BradleysGarage6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. You won't need to remove the starter if you are just doing the driver's side. You will however need to remove the center bolt from the passenger mount in order to be able to lift the motor up to get the driver's side out. So that means you are still doing about 90% of the work. We would definitely recommend replacing both mounts since you are getting under there and doing the majority of the work. But it's up to you in the end on what works best for you. Let us know how it goes. Good luck on your F150 project. Cheers! Cheers!

The torque is not accurate when you use all them extensions. Just saying!!!!
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments LT. In some cases there is just no way to access the bolt/nut without adding an extension. If you can keep great alignment then the typical extension will not affect the torque value. Now if you are adding a swivel or crowsfoot, then there will be a formula that must be taken in account. it's all about the angle and at which degree is your starting point. The online debate over extensions and torque values is never ending. Here's a great site that sheds some light on the torque values and how they are affected by extensions. He also includes some real world test videos that show all the different scenarios. agradetools.com/torque-wrench-myth-busted/ Cheers!
