In this video I show you how to replace broken front springs and struts on your 2004 to 2014 F-150. Broken springs are a common problem with these trucks. I used a set of strut/spring assemblies by Monroe because the truck that I was working on still had the originals on it and it had over 120,000 miles on them. If the mileage on your truck is lower you can replace just the springs but the strut must be disassembled, the new springs installed, then reassembled. Replacing the broken springs with a new strut assembly is much quicker. Here are some links to the parts and the tools that I used:
Monroe Quick Struts:
2004-2008 2WD: amzn.to/2FSBCdz
2004-2008 4WD: amzn.to/2G7scOz
2009-2013 2WD: amzn.to/2tXwOCd
2009-2013 4WD: amzn.to/2FJAqNs
2014's are left and right side specific and 2WD/4WD specific.
Locktite: amzn.to/2DCMR85
Torque Wrench: amzn.to/2HIXQyV

You're supposed to torque the bottom nut on the strut with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension or the bushing in the strut will get damaged.

Thanks for this video, it encouraged me to do it myself. One problem though, my 2011 F-150 does not look like that. My control arm comes in from the top and was an absolute bear to get off. My strut bottom doesn't go into an open bracket like yours, it went into more like a channel. That meant I had to remove the lower control arm, sway bar, and upper control arm to get everything opened enough to get the strut out...and that was even more of a bear. How come mine is different?
@RepairGeek

09 to 14 uses a steel control arm 04 to 08 is aluminium. It's a similar procedure. As to why they changed designs I'm not sure could be cost or 100 other things.

Good video! Are you still happy with the lift? I will be putting one in by spring. Would you feel comfortable putting a Chevy Suburban on it?
@RepairGeek
@RepairGeek 6 жыл бұрын
You will have no problem putting a Suburban on one. I've had a 2500 HD with a Duramax in it on my lift and I felt completely comfortable with it. I would estimate was between 6500 and 7000 lbs. I don't regret the lift at all. Perfect example: I'm installing a new front axle seal in the truck in this video (I'm not recording it) Being able to get the truck at the perfect height to drive in the new seal makes the job so much easier. The only thing I would have done differently is try to find an automotive equipment supplier and physically compare Bendpak to other brands. Chances are I would have still ended up with Bendpak but, after having to replace both cylinders you begin to question things.

Got a 2013 F150 supercrew XLT 4wd, the ford OEM strut assemblies are around 360 bucks. Is that just ford jacking the price on their stuff? Are the monroe's comparable to the OEM strut assembly? I mean I could almost get Fox strut assemblies for Ford's price!

Whoops, at 9:55 you fully torqued the lower main bolt while the control arm was lowered (unloaded), therefore the bushing was twisted, deformed and degraded when placed under load at ride height. Put a jack under the control arm and raise it up, THEN torque it down to save your customer some grief. Nice video otherwise, good vibe.
@RepairGeek
@RepairGeek 6 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. The reason I didn't show that is it's very hard getting a good shot of that. The floor jack is in the way, the camera is in my way, and usually the shot looks like crap anyways. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@RepairGeek
@RepairGeek 4 жыл бұрын
Technically yes you do. There is the potential for the ride height with new springs to be different than what it was originally. That could throw off your toe potentially. Is it 100% necessary? It's a grey area. You may not need it it just depends on your situation. I've gotten by without one but, it's your call.
