I can actually make the droning noise, and the whistle noise because I have the two bicuspid gap in my teeth and if I move my mouth completely horizontally and force a huge amount of air it makes that noise. I was at this race. My dad got me into NASCAR and we went together. Our first live race. He was in his Dale Jr. gear and I in my Gordon gear. It was so loud and exciting. Yeah, the ending was anti-climatic. I remember the confusion at the end. No one could hear the announcement at first. Then the crowd went nuts. I literally was waiting to get clocked in the back of the head/my Gordon cap. We ended up waiting to watch the victory lane celebration while most people left the stands. I get that Jr. fans were upset. He had the dominate car all day but he also had issues with people not wanting to work with him. Can’t blame them. He even dumped Michael a couple of times, got out in front by himself then would get overtaken by others. It was a pattern. Gordon ran top 10 all day. It’s not like he had a crap car. If that last caution hadn’t come out, there’s really no way of knowing who would win. Sure, Jr.’s odds were high but there were several other cars up front that could just as easily made the right moves to get the win. I’m pretty sure most of them were not interested in just helping Jr. win another restriction plate race. Harvick could certainly have won that race. Maybe Johnson. If they had gone green white checkered, there most likely would’ve been a massive wreck with everyone trying to make a move at the same time. That could’ve taken out the best cars of the day and the winner could’ve been someone who hadn’t been up front all day. A win of attrition. Like I said, I get that Jr. fans were upset but throwing debris on the track and at Gordon’s car was childish and inexcusable. If Jr. had won, I can’t see Gordon fans, Harvick fans, or anyone else’s fans doing the same thing to the 8 car. Jr. showed class after the race but his fans did not.

Running out that race under caution and not even trying to finish under green is why the fans were so pissed off....and they had every right to be.
@DaleReynolds9 жыл бұрын
+remaster1981 As a 13 year old Gordon fan at the time who was thrilled that finally DEI got beat at a plate track, I can agree. They had 4 full laps to sort things out. In today's world, that would be more than enough time to red flag the field, clean the wreck, organize the field, open the pits and then finish in G-W-C. But then again back in 2004 when they started implementing all the freezing the field and everything, it was terrible. I remember a Dover race where they ran like 40 laps under caution (I remember Matt Kenseth's interview, he was pissed) and I was at the 2004 Pocono 500 where they ran like 50 of 200 laps under caution. NASCAR did not have their s**t together during this time period when it came to organizing the field and late race cautions.

Excuse If Im mistaken but I think Jr. won this race 6 times in his career. 5 with DEI & one with Hendrick. He could've won this race at least 10 times. Easily could've won this race 2 more times at DEI the EA sports running of this in 2003 when Michael Waltrip finished 1st & Jr. 2nd breaking his streak of 4 in a row... That would've been 5 in a row If Michael would've got the hell out of the way. That always pissed me off... Then this race right here would've been 6 wins at Talladega as Jr. did have the faster car over Gordon & If It did go back to green Jr. most likely wins. So thats 6 wins he could've had here at Talladega under DEI. Then moving to Hendrick I believe he won this race once in 2010 if im not mistaken, correct me if im wrong. I could have the yr wrong but I think he only won this race once with Hendrick. But if you go back & watch him race this track from like 2010-2015 he would always be pushing Jimmie Johnson which always angered me when at that time this was one of the few race tracks that Jr. still ran well at. Jimmie was winning every where why they couldn't of had Jimmie pushing Jr. in those races I will never understand. But if they had made more of an effort to have Jr. win Talladega at Hendrick he could've came really close to winning this race 10 times like his father did.

Every clip showed JG was winning when the caution came out. So no, Jr did not get screwed. Also, to everyone who said "If it was green Jr would've won." That's not a fact. Jeff got a really good push from Harvick. Even so, if it was green who knows who would've won. They could've both spun out. Jr could have won. Jeff still could have won. Eric.Cox Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds, Darrell Waltrip, and Jeff Hammond we’re upset what the fans did. Chris Myers said there is 160,000 fans and there would be a few idiots.

Guess what, 2007 the fans trashed the race track again after Jeff Gordon broke his tie with Dale Earnhardt of 76 wins with 77 wins. Bob Jenkins called those tossing trash onto the race track "race idiots". Same thing in 2004 and 2007. But they didn't care.

If Dale were still with us he'd have went to victory lane and personally congratulated Jeff Gordon on his achievements.

Back then they never took away wins just points penalty and a fine, crew chief got suspended, I wish they still did that, if you watch a race and see the ending it's over, it's an insult especially to fans who came long distances to see a race to tell them what they saw really didn't happen, I say just don't award points and go on, unless there was foul play involved such as outrageously dirty driving but announce it immediately over the PA not hours later.
