If you have the dip stick. Why not check the level prior to draining? Then You have a idea on where it should be after the change.

Ouch 22 bucks a liter and 60 for the dipstick? FYI, look around you can find ATF134 from Shell for about $5 a quart, and it's approved by Mercedes. Dipstick is about $20 on ebay. I'd stick with Mercedes OEM filter and gasket though.

Any time anything is sealed or lubricated for life it will have a short life if can't find a way to change the fluid that goes for ball joints / tie rod ends / links that have no grease fittings in most late model car

Why use 1/2 liter (500ml) less fluid when you re-fill the transmission? Let's assume you drain 5 liters, I would think you should put 5 liters back in and then check the level after the oil has been warmed to the proper temp. Please explain the less oil thing.

You have oil stuck in the circuit mostly radiator that metal snakey tube in front

my 2006 c230 does not have a deepstick tube where can check the transmition it only have the oil dipstick but no transmition hole i check everywhere

Sean Nicholls if it’s leaking from the pan gasket yes. If it’s leaking from any of the connectors, front pump seal, or anywhere else then you’ll need to figure that out because obviously replacing the pan gasket won’t fix that.

My schedule was hard to find because originally they marketed as sealed for life. I believe 39k miles is the interval for my car. Check your owners manual. If you don't have a transmission fluid tube in your engine bay (where the transmission dipstick would go) you have to fill it up from the bottom hole in the transmission pan, where the transmission pan bolt goes. Doing this requires a lot of technicality since you must measure the amount of transmission fluid at certain temperatures to correct the level of the fluid in the system.

He put in 500ml less fluid than the measured quantity he took out. Then slowly added more fluid to bring it to the correct line on the dipstick

I would never trust the amount of fluid that came out of the transmission as most of the time it's wrong. Go by what the specs say. And I got my dipstick tool for $6.99 on Amazon. FYI

Hey Man thanks for the Video! I have a problem I hope you can help out. I replaced the fluid And now it won’t go in to gear. I believe I filled it up from the wrong spot... The one on the right where you check the fluid level? I filled it there and now it won’t go in to any gear-No reverse no Drive ....Do you recommend drain the fluid again and fill it up from the left one as you described? Please help..Thank you!

I'm in the process of changing my 96 sl500's fluid but am unsure how much fluid I drained out. I hear about 3.3 liters of fluid will drain from the pan upon removal but I also ran the car in park a couple minutes to keep the battery charged. I estimate there's roughly 3-4 liters left in the system. Would you recommend adding a couple liters then shifting through the gears keeping my foot on the break then checking the dipstick tool once the fluid returns to normal temperature and making finer adjustments from that point? I ask because I'm concerned about shifting it through the gears with the likely possibility of there being too little fluid possibly being under filled by as much as 2 liters. I don't want to take any chances. Thanks for any help.

I realized this is old but warning to everyone changing fluid. DO NOT run the car with no transmission fluid in any gear including park. The pump relies on fluid for lubrication
