One thing to mention to anyone who does this by themselves, when you punch out the overflow pipe there is a potential for it to get wedged between valve body and trans housing so BE SURE to make sure it’s in the pan when you lower it

Not all 722.9 has a drain plug in the torque converter, the early model 722.9 has them and 722.9 plus not all model has them. On initial drain and fill 2-3 times should replace 80% which should be good for 30k-40k mile intervals service from there on.

Every 722.9 I’ve ever worked on had a bolt for the torque converter and oh my does a lot of extra fluid spill out. If you’re going to go to all that trouble might as well try to get as much fluid out as possible.

I’m getting ready to do this. Car has 115,000 miles and has not been changed. Do I even bother and drain the torque converter? Someone told me it’s better to leave some of the old fluid in to help with the grip of the clutches. I assume with the 3 fillings that 75% ish of the fluid will be new.

Good DIY. But you should drain the oil from the torque converter. All 722.9 with blue oil have the drain plug.

I have a 2006 C 300 with 129,000 miles, I don’t think the fluid ever got changed if it if it were to be changed at this time, will it slip because it happened to my Acura TL when I changed the fluid 140k. I am very skeptical about changing it now. However, I’m always thinking that this service need to be done. thank you.

I might as well try to ask here; My additional transmission cooler at the front of the car was damaged and about 300-500ml of trans. fluid leaked out (the amount in the cooler at that time). Is it possible/good idea to drive (with now new cooler and no more leaks) about 25km to the nearest shop that could refill it and take care of it? 2015 E212 350 cdi bluetec, 7g tronic plus. Thanks in advance for any relevant answer :)

Have you ever done the 7Gtronic 7-speed MCT "Multi Clutch Technology" (722.9 But TC less..) thats in Merc's and Infiniti's ,2013-2018?

With this car being 4Matic and equipped with the 7G+, the torque converter and the transfer case should've been drained. When these are drained on my 2012 C300 4Matic, around 9 liters come out. I'm so surprised you thought 4 or 4.5 liters are going to be enough.

How's your 4Matic holding up? Do you have to change all 4 tires at a time? Any maintenance needed for the 4Matic specifically?

@@Vanguardkl it's holding up relatively well at 119,000 km. I change the transmission fluid every 60,000 km. The only issue bothering me now with it is a vibration at idle while in D or R. I changed engine and transmission mounts and still no solution. Will continue diagnosing. As for the tires, yes they need to remain a set.

If my scanner can’t read my trans temp but can read my engine temp can I use the 79.6 engine temp to correlate with the 45 temp for the transmission?

I did mine at 47k miles, the amount of fine metal grit is significantly less than the one in video. Not sure about the milage of the video car

I don't see any other dipstick than the one for the engine. Is there a way to check the fluid level without removing the drain plug or getting under the car? I have a 2016 GLE 350. Thanks

No, you must remove the drain plug with engine running and at temperature.

You only drained about half the fluid, leaving the fluid in the torque converter (and the oil cooler). I expected better of FCP.

if it’s MCT it doesn’t have torque converter it’s wet clutch. there is no drain plug for torque converter

the 722.9 is not a mct it’s a torque converter trans the 4matic transfer case is what your thinking of but if it’s higher mileage it’s better to have some of the older fluid to aid in grip to the clutches packs that have lost they grip over many miles

You look professional but I would not recommend your gearbox service, as you left around 3 litres of dirty oil in the torque converter and pump. Result transmissions new oil contaminated. Transmission still full of dirt & metal particles. Waste of time & money. Customers transmission at risk. So 6Litres new oil in the Transmission, holds 9 litres. Expert Job? No Garages are charging big buck to do this simple job. How many are doing this?
