one of the best videos about the deville that I have seen in years. You're right, it's not a speed kind of car like a mustang but it was more meant for cruising and it's not under powered either because once it starts going on the highway you can't stop that thing.

I inherited this exact same car from my mother with less than 40k. on it. Had to drive it home to Michigan from Florida. I would never have bought this car new but I fell in love with it on the drive home. This is an overlooked car whose value far exceeds it's price if you get one that was well maintained.. like my mom's.

That sounds very familiar. I also inherited a 2003 Deville with 23K miles from my mom in Florida. I decided to save the miles so I had it transported to Colorado. I really enjoy the car. It is a dream to drive, powerful and has finely appointed amenities. Thanks for the video.
@Meinstein

@@keneakin3363 That was wise. It cost me far more to fly down there to pick it up and drive it back.. but a final journey home seemed more appropriate.. and fun.

Good I've put about 2000 miles on it so far I bought a 2004 dts with 150k miles and it still runs smooth, I had to put a little money into fixing some of the front suspension components but for the price I got it for it wasn't a problem.

I just bought one of these 11/4/17, a 2005 Cadillac DeVille with 120,000 miles on it. The car is in excellent shape. Everything still works even the windows all the switches and digital gauges. Just the "Service airbag light" is on. The AC is phenomenally cold when you turn it on. I bought this car just to cruise to work. I've heard mixed reviews on the Northstar engine. Even spoke to several mechanics about it, they say it's high maintenance. This is my third Cadillac. Even though it has a nice big ride it handles quite well not like the Land Yachts I used to drive. I hope the car serves me well. I picked it up wholesale for $1700 +TTL, can't beat that with a stick right down to the chrome wheels. Thanks for your review I'll keep you updated.

How are you liking your deville? I also have a 2005 Deville. I originally bought mine 6 years ago with 95k and now almost 185k trouble-free miles. I do all maintenance and servicing myself and its very easy to do and no high maintenance at all. You just have to know what your doing and do things properly. I've been around Cadillac's all my life and know all the older Cadillac's very well. My grandfather specialized in Cadillac since the late 1940's Cadillac's.

I have a 2004 Cadillac Deville. Same pearl color. That car drives like a dream. I love the 4.6 V8 engine, with the quad pipes. It has nice room in it and also it drives and handles very well to me. I purchased it at 66,000 miles in 2014. It's one of the best choices I made in a car.

Great overall review! I own a 2005 Deville custom with the Livery Package in a light cashmere/gold myself with currently 130k. I remember when theses Devilles came out in 2000 and I was only about 10 years old and I remember playing in them new in the showroom. I personally love many of the older Cadillac's but this is one of my top favorites for numerous reasons. 2005 was the last year for the Deville before going to the New DTS in 2006. I love the power and sound of the Northstar V8 and the comfort and overall build quality of this Deville. All maintenance and servicing I do myself as I'm very picky as to how I want to keep my cars. I waited almost 15 years to buy one waiting for the prices to come down. All the waiting paid off! I hope you enjoy your Deville as much as I do mine. Maintain it the way your suppose to and also DRIVE it the way your suppose to. Remember these are performance engines so don't be afraid to stomp on the gas from time to time. Its a lot of fun smoking the front tires every so often. Haha

I inherited this car indirectly from my dad who inherited from a family friend who passed away at age 101 in October of 2019. It had about 50k miles. This was basically my first car as I drove it illegally for while before I got my license in 2020. It took me to work, too me to school, pretty much took me everywhere with zero issues. It’s a presentable looking car. It is silver and very elegant. The only cons of this car for me is the amount of gas it burns through. But overall, I love the car I still use it while I save up for a better car. But I have to thank this car for carrying me the last 2 years. Very smooth, and handsome ride indeed.

Just keep your car properly maintained including the cooling system and you'll be fine. I have the same car myself that I've owned for several years now. Do your recommended service intervals and the car will be perfect. This is something that all the older Cadillac's had to go through as well and mostly the 50's and 60's Cadillac's 331, 365 and 390 engines were exactly the same. If they are not maintained right would also have problems including leaking head gaskets.

Don't give up on it. I always depends on who's working on the car. This goes for even all the older Cadillac's from many years ago. My grandfather specialized in Cadillac's going back to the 50's and it was the same thing on those cars. These are some excellent cars. I have a 2005 Deville myself with close to 185k trouble-free miles. I do all maintenance and servicing myself.

The DHS is a very nice car, no doubt about it. I much prefer the 2004-05 DeVille DTS over the DHS though for a few reasons... I prefer the extra standard and optional features the DTS includes. I also like the extra 25 HP obviously, the much better 3.71 gearing versus the DHS's 3.11 gearing, the sportier suspension, the great looking 17" chrome wheels that include wider, more aggressive tires. On the inside... I prefer the floor shifter instead of the column shifter, and I prefer the bucket seats instead of the bench seating. Other than that, they're both amazing luxury cars that a quick, ride well and even get decent gas mileage for a V8, especially on the highway. One last thing... The 2004 and 2005 Northstar V8 engines do not have the common problems of the 2003 and earlier engines do, so that's a nice bonus. Anyway, thanks for the great review and nice DHS!

DTS has standard CVRSS (Continually variable road sensing suspension ) it makes it a great handling car for its size. The problem is GM does not make these shocks anymore. They cost at least $700 to $1,000 EACH if you can find them. You can run regular shocks but the electronic system needs a bypass or you will get a Check suspension message on the dash and speed will be limited.

Would you suggest maintaining this car with a dealer or with a specialist? I understand that Northstar engines will remain reliable as long as they are maintained by trained mechanics only.
@Meinstein

My advice is.. if you don't use it to pull a trailer up a mountain.. and you only do pulls when the car has a single passenger or less.. ordinary oil change places will alert you to a problem.

I have a 2000 deville, but the fact it's a 32v Northstar means problems. The Northstar is known for over heating a lot. The car only has 60k miles on it too. So the fact that mine over heats kind of sucks. So I need to replace the headers because it leaks oil, and most likely the gaskets too
@starxlr7863
@starxlr7863 4 жыл бұрын
Overheating can mean several different things. Oil leaks do not cause overheating. If your car has only 60k, I would do a complete coolant flush and check the purge line which are known to become clogged with old coolant and cause an overheat condition. The same thing can happen to any car you buy including any older Cadillac. The Northstar is one of Cadillac's best engines they have made and built for 20 years.

On those curvy country 2-lane roads... shift it down one, from D to 3. Ooohh. On really curvy roads, shift down to 2. Way ooohh. 2 is also good for going down steep hills, saves wear and tear on your brakes. The dashboard display is awful... but there's a button to the left of the steering wheel that turns it all off, except for the speedometer. I am also 5’10”... and, at 78, can comfortably nap in the back seat. Plus, the front seat is a wide bench... no center console... so you can get close to the one you're with, just like in 1960!

+scully The Northstar engine was one of the Best performance engines by GM for Cadillac. They are well built engines and use many heavy duty parts internally. The only reason why the head gaskets will go is because of one simple reason......maintenance. its a coolant related issue, nothing more and nothing less. When the wrong coolant is added or turns acidic, it eats away at the head gaskets which then leaks around the head bolts and corrodes them. This is a problem with many GM engines and is very preventable. I drive a 2005 Deville and its an excellent car. I drive it everywhere I go and has been extremely reliable. My parents still drive their 1995 Seville SLS with over 300k and never once had any problems.

D T Depends what year Cadillac you have. Always when in doubt, go based on what the owners says to use. But typically GM Dexcool which is orange in color is used on 1996 and newer GM engines. Never go over 3 years without flushing the system completely.

A head gasket leak stems directly from the cooling system. You must follow the recommended service intervals and flush out the coolant when needed. If you do this already then you will be fine! This was also a common issue on many of the old Cadillac's including the 50's and 60's Cadillac's. Cadillac was very strict back then to service the cooling system properly for trouble free driving. Otherwise the same symptoms would happen. Unfortunately not everyone maintains the cooling system the way they should as its one thing that does get overlooked a lot.

Sorry kid. But this body style came out in 2000 and ended in 2005. Not in 2003 as you mentioned. I've owned 3. My recent one is a 05 DTS in White Diamond. Has every option except nigh vision. Which is a novelty. And isn't worth the 2000 dollar option..

it really depends who you have working on your car. If things are done correctly should not be costing you much in maintenance at all. Also my 05 Deville that I have owned for 6 years now and almost 185k trouble-free miles still has all its original hardware and windows working. Sorry that you've not hard a great experience with yours, but this can happen on any car you buy. Just depends who you have working on your car!
