In this video I show you how to install a cold air intake on a Dodge Durango 5.7 V8. THIS COLD AIR INTAKE WAS PURCHASED ON EBAY. This should be the same process for the HEMI power plant in the Chrysler Aspen.

Update, I have installed this intake and love it. It gives the engine a nice throaty sound and definitely increased throttle response. Only issue I had was that there wasn’t a hose clamp that fit over the throttle body. Had to take one off the old intake system. Wasn’t that big of an issue and other than that it installed very smooth.

hey I just got my 04 durango off an auction and did the usual service stuff, looking to beef it up a bit but also trying to be mindful of MPGs.. I read that some cold air intakes or turbos can increase MPGs slightly and give more performance. is this true? how did it go for you?

I just installed one of these on my 04 Durango. The only thing I did different was to mount the bracket to the ground bolt on the inner fender wall. Was able to bend the bracket by hand with a pair of pliers. Very stable. I will work on a box to isolate the air filter from the engine bay. I'm thinking of modifying the stock filter box to work.

That sounds like a great idea! First I didn't like the kit because it was not super specific to the vehicle but it is kind of nice to have the flexibility to install it how you would like.

Thanks Mike for the amazing and detailed video, I just purchased the red one.. guess I'm going to take my changes..I read some of the comments after I bought it. Installing on a 08 Aspen Hemi w/flowmaster 50 series muffler system. I can't wait to hear the combination of the two. I'll keep you updated and ask some questions I'm sure.

@@MikeMurphyinc so I just installed it today, and after going around the block..I lost power to the engine. The little lightning bolt started flashing. Did you experience anything like that before?

@@edub276 I never had anything like that in the ten years I owned it. I wonder if you're having an issue with the computer or something along those lines. Did you check the check engine codes?

@@MikeMurphyinc no codes and no check engine light. I followed steps to reset the ETC. I ended up back tracking the steps and found that I had the first sensor hole in to far, so it was probably letting in to much air. Looks like that was the issue, a few more test rides and no issues. I keep an eye on it for now.

To make those rubber and plastic pieces fit better, coat them with a little tire shine. Works great

@@MikeMurphyinc Yeah i do that with rubber and plastic parts. Helps them go together easier since it lubes it a bit, then over some time the plastic and rubber soaks in the tire shine or protectant so it doesn't leave a wet residue behind

Don't do this people, it does mess with the air to fuel ratio and your computer has to work hard to fix it. You literally gain nothing by doing this without a TUNE and it could actually degrade your engine performance.

I did this then the check engine light came on for airflow or suction loss I think so I just went back to the factory box

So the reducer for the filter was too big and the reducer for the throttle body was too small? Sounds like you just got them mixed up lol. Also obviously you have to take the o ring off the sensor, the gromet acts as a replacment for it.

@@RoastFlea61 I bought a K&N comical filter but did not put it on yet. All the fittings seem to have held up just fine. Definitely worth the cost in my opinion. I just replaced my radiator and it was nice already having the old airbox out of the way.

I did not reset it and it's running great! I have a K&N co e filter ready to install and a water sock but haven't put them on yet. So far so good!

The only one I ever owned was a 2004. I have no idea about a 2007. I know the front ends were different but the back ends may also be because they had different tail lights I believe

It has been proven that the factor air box is about the best you can get, unless you do true race intake. Sticking the cone filter inside the engine compartment only pulls in hot air. Also, it's about air volume, increase the size of the throttle body. Only thing that can be done on a budget, purchase a race filter for the factory air box, or just take it out if you want to do strip runs.

These things only work if you pipe the cone filter towards the bumper outside the engine compartment and insulate the pipes in the engine bay. At most, gains of several ponys. Not worth the chance of sucking up water.😉

I'd say that k&n is the worst upgrade u can do because the amount of particulates it filters out is very low compared to any regular filter at least these type still have a real filter media check out project farm's video about the k&n oil soaked filters they don't filter anything

Actually, your restricting air flow on hard acceleration with that system. That cluncky extra air box on the factory set up holds air volume for throttle response. Go back to the factory air box, K&N filter.(edit-2yrs later)- your air flow is only as good as your intake plenum and throttle body. this is common sense stuff for car dudes. cone on man🤣

That box on the intake is to tune out noise that's all it does you can't store air it would implode the box when you accelerated if it was actually sucking the air from that box it's litterally to make the engine quieter lots of cars have them those round filters have way more surface area compared to a stock square thats why he said it has a throaty sound that's exactly what that box is trying to prevent
