I sold my 98 ST1100 with 180,000 MILES on it back in 2012 and bought a 2010 ST1300. It now has 115,000 miles on it and love it. I commute 300 miles a week on it rain or shine here in sunny Central Coast California. It gets an honest 45-46 miles per gallon and I only fill up once a week with that 7.7 gallon tank. Great range.

I am from the States and I own an ST1300 and a Goldwing. I feel Honda makes a very reliable touring motorcycle. I have ridden my Goldwing on Iron Butt rides where we rode 1,200 miles (2,000 km) in 22 hours without stopping for anything but fuel and a quick bathroom break. We never shut off the motorcycles because all our GPS data and communication gear is configured and linked. We never have mechanical issues. I ride the ST1300 on the shorter 300 miles (500km) rides. The ST1300 is a fantastic cycle and if you want a reliable cycle that is easy to maintain (well engineered for home maintenance and not a lot of specialized tools) then this is the bike for you. Thanks for wonderful review of your bike. Be safe and we will make the best of our time riding during the Covid-19 situation.Cheers!

Would you say the Honda ST 1300 is easier to maintain at home than other bikes in its class like the Yamaha FJR 1300?

I am from western australia and I have a st 1300 and a goldwing love them both but the wing is more comfortable on long ride I use a Michelin car tire on the wing and get twice the milage out of it compared to a bike tire by the way I am 78

It's clear to see you look after it Chris, as shield liger says, the police did have some issues with a high speed wobble causing a tank slapper and returned some back to Honda. Some 03 models were recalled by Honda for new front engine mounts. A police officer was killed on the M58 near Skelmersdale Merseyside, he was in lane 3 the bike pitched him off into lane 2 where he was hit by an HGV, the story was in MCN. They have done a lot of testing at Bruntingthorpe proving ground but found no consistancy between bikes, some folks say it's because of all the weight of the police equipment and the way they ride them at speed. I bet a bit of sliding wouldn't bother you much Chris being a motocrosser lol!
@lucyvanlaarhoven58934 жыл бұрын
I have read that MCN article. So sad that the motorcycle officer lost his life. I have a 2006 ST1300. I have maintained the front forks and added a slightly thicker fork fluid from 8 to 15 to stiffen the fork compression during pre-turn braking. Never felt the wobble as described in MCN in regards to ST1300. I also do not use a top box and keep the side bags at approved weight limits approved by Honda. Be safe and enjoy the ST1300

The fjr does not have the better weather protection the pan does .

They're both very good bikes for touring. The Yamaha rides a bit more sportier but the Honda is smoother. I tried both and went for the Honda. My mate has a FJR and loves it. So it's personal choice really. Try both and then you'll know.

Operate the left hand bag lock, lift up the latch and there's a small tab on the inside which releases the lock on the rear seat. The two seat halves tend to come off together but they split easily.

@monticlassictv4 жыл бұрын
Phil Giles Hi Phil if it’s as good as you say with service history etc probably around the £5500 - £6000 Mark would be a fair price but it really all depends what a buyer’s prepared to pay for it but good luck selling it.

What are they like around town, are they heavy to lug about or nimble ?
@dennyr983734 жыл бұрын
I owned a 2005 ST1300. Best bike I ever owned. It is considered somewhat top-heavy with the 5 gallons of fuel on top. So it it ever gets away from you, you will need to muscle it back up. As I am 77 and without the strength anymore, I reluctantly traded it in for a bike weighing 300 lbs. lighter. All that said, however, people would ask me how I could ride a bike at 1/2 mph. It is an extremely stable bike at slow speed. Weighing 750 lbs. plus cargo and rider, they are not nimble. But you are holding on to a monster that will whip you down the road from a start, shifting at 30 mph into 2nd gear halfway thru an intersection. Doing 60 mph behind an 18-wheel truck, downshifting to 3rd and passing, you will be doing 110 mph when you pass the tractor cab. No, it is not the fastest bike, but smooth and powerful. I let a friend ride it through some twisties in the mountains and I thought I was never going to see him again. When we finally caught up, he said "Man, it sure loves the curves!!" Yes, I wore some metal of the foot pegs a few times, which was surprising, because you felt totally in control. Well, that is just a start. The (pricey) rubber edge molding for the bike really helps keep the engine heat at bay. Have a good ride.

When you were younger did you ever suspect you would have a dream job you have now???
@monticlassictv3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter thanks for your time watching my content and for your comments. I certainly don’t know everything about road or dirt bikes although I’ve been around them since I was a kid so have learned a bit but as for it being a dream job certainly not, making these video’s takes up a significant part of my life and more often than not I’m sitting behind a computer when I should be doing much more rewarding stuff. The only reward or payment I receive for all these hours of work is through the ads placed on my video’s and because both the UK and now the USA are now taking their share of taxes from any earnings I make the time has come to think seriously about if the entire You Tube thing is worth because the amount of revenue I receive is pathetic for the hours travelling, filming, editing, and putting these projects together. So as for a dream job I don’t think so but thanks again for your comments and for watching my video’s.

Great video! I had an ST1100 a few years ago, loved it. My only criticism (use that word loosely...) was the clunky gear change. I would love to have a later ST1300, but I was nervous of the gear change being as clunky as the earlier ST1100. Seeing as you say the gear change is slick, I shall have to find one for a test ride now! 👍👌
@AlfredMoi3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Changing gear is soft to the shoe and consistently smooth but as with more motorbikes, it will respond with a clunking sound or considerable resistance to some gear changes, when you stopped the engine for about 10 minutes. It likes making a new start and temperature having been dropped, like after an hour or so. Some riders, in general, did benefit from clutch renewal when gear change is rough. I like the way you can constantly increase revelations on this V4, it sounds as being a turbine engine. Always more in store. The V4 is a compact built engine type, that people rely on but various techniques being applied make the ST1300 over complicated. At slow speed mine can fall into a corner and you feel the weight at turns. I also notice it is on the throttle and fast to respond, nervous one would say. Don't want to hold my hand that steady. Good luck with your choice and let us know. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHivkqd3rriYh80 for short impression.
