2004 Lexus RX 300 owners review

Welcome to the 2005 Lexus RX 300, this is my 2nd generation Lexus RX. Purchased early 2020, the car has done just over 93k miles. In this video I discuss what its like to own and drive the Lexus RX. In the states this generation of RX is known as the RX 330.

You forgot to mention the secret boot spaces. The buttons are either side of the trim near where it locks. Not many people realise that if you push them two compartments open. Awesome feature. 😎

Very interesting. I had a 2003 RX300 but in 2004 in the US they changed/refreshed the body/interior & it became the RX330 & then the RX350...and the body style & interior of the vehicle you reviewed is that refresh that was the RX330/RX350....but it has RX300 on the tailgate. They must have given it a new body/interior but kept the RX300 badging in other countries at that time. I never knew that :-)

Great video , I’m really considering getting a Rx in the next few months, I’m torn between the Rx 400h and the 300 ! I’m dubious about the hybrid system going wrong on the 400h , can I please ask ,is the gas mileage really bad on the 300 ? I live in a small town in Essex so mostly open roads !! Thanks

Good vid, cheers. I am on the look out for a rx 300. It seems that about £3500 is the starting price of a half decent one. It is just above my budget thought. Ah well. it is better to travel in hope than to arrive. So it is said. :)

Thanks for watching, last time I looked there was a RX 300 with 64k miles in Glasgow for just over £3,300. I believe I paid £3,100 for mine with circa 90k miles... :P

I am about to take delivery of a 2007 Toyota Harrier. Pretty much the same thing. It will be the dog carrier. Do you have any thoughts on dogproofing these? Back bumper horizontal surface is not too hard - lots of bumper guards out there - but our dog tends to use the vertical face too as she jumps in and out. Looking for an easy solution. I'm actually thinking about just glueing carpet on. But I know that will be a pain to remove later. Cheers!

I had to dog proof mine, I bought one of the custom rubber boot liners that also came with a beige carpet insert for the days I didnt carry the dog. I have a Siberian Husky for reference. I got my liner off Amazon. :)

Hi there, Looking to upgrade from my old Audi A4 estate to an SUV and love the early Lexus RX 300. Just looking at boot space with the rear seats in the fully down position. DO they lay fairly flat? I go match fishing and can get all my gear in to the rear of the Audi with the rear seats folded but trying to visualise this in the Lexus is difficult as I don't know anyone with a Lexus SUV. Are you able to post a video or PM some photos of the seats fully laid flat and maybe put a standard suitcase in the back so I can gauge the storage size. Big ask sorry but I either run the Audi into the ground (2007 1.9tdi) or trade it in for £400-£500 against an RX300 2004/6 ish plate. Thanks in advance!

My 2004 RX the seats fold fairly flat and it is ideal for carrying my Husky about.

@@dkgambituk The RX300 has been great! More reliable than my SC430. Check for rust, suspension bushes and ensure it has been regularly maintained. (I also have other videos on my RX on this channel that go into issues etc if you wish to watch that one)

Looking at picking up one of these at the weekend. 16 lexus service stamps, 77 thousand miles, I'm hopeful it's in good condition. Out of interest, what's your long term average MPG?

I think the RX 300 would be a good shout, one with a high spec like mine so you get the gadgets and avoid the higher tax of the RX350 models. £3k max for a 04 model

@@RevLexus hey, thanks for the reply. About to go buy one tomorrow after if it all checks out. It’s an RX350 on a 06 plate with 116k mileage. Interior looks clean snd tidy in pictures. Says there’s service history, 4 prev owners, 2 keys etc for £3000. What you think about that? He’s priced it competitively and HPI report shows it’s clean and valued between 3750 and 4400. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks man

Yes tax is a killer at £600 a year / £50 a month. Also it’s an 3.5 litre engine, it’s going to drink petrol so bit worried about that but want a fully loaded big family car with two car seats in the back for a reasonable price. Still not sure but leaning towards it…

@@anonymous4201 If you get to see it in person please check for rust underside as that can be a big issue on Japanese cars. Also check the suspension as that can need repaired with age too! Furthermore, can you check the timing belt and waterpump were done at 100k miles or 10 years old?

Looks like your RX 300 is a Japanese spec? The flashing front door courtesy lamps and switchblade style key are not U.K. market features? It’s equivalent to an RX300 SE Nav spec? I have a 2004 SE-L and used to work for Toyota & Lexus when these were new. Looks like your rear cup holders cover in the armrest has been swapped out for one from the RX400H where they deleted the wood trim and fitted brushed aluminium trim to “modernise” the feel! Also, is your sunroof operating correctly? I had to initialise mine when I bought the car due to a previous flat battery. Your tilt button should only operate the tilt up and down, and the slide should only slide open and close with one touch auto function like the side windows? When set correctly the auto slide should open about 4/5ths the way back, to reduce buffeting with the last 5th opening with a second push of the slide button. Slide close should also be auto one touch. Sorry for being such an anorak! Great cars and virtually bombproof in the U.K.

@@RevLexus Hiya! You can initialise the sunroof yourself! Copied from page 127 of the handbook.... “To normalize the moon roof, push and hold the slide control switch toward the front or the tilt switch on the rear side. The moon roof will tilt up and down, then slide open and close. After the slide close operation, release the switch. Make sure the moon roof opens and closes automatically.” Here endeth the lesson!

I have had both (if you haven't seen my review of my black 2007 IS 250). The IS 250 can get about 40 mpg and comes with new tech like cooled seats and keyless entry. The RX is more comfortable and offers more load space.

@@RevLexus I ran out of time, so bought a 2005 GS 300 instead - I couldn’t find a decent is 250 or RX 300 anywhere near me, all the good ones were way up north and I’m on the south coast, and I needed to get a car sooner rather than later. It’s early days but so far I’m really impressed… fingers crossed! 112,700 miles, cost me £2500. The alloys look a mess and and the moonroof doesn’t function properly, but other than that it drives like a dream

Realistically in combined driving 23mpg.

@@jayuddin9590 It is costly to run fuel wise but if you find one that hasn't got rust or a leaking sun roof it should save you money regarding repairs. They have a RX400h hybrid if you want more mpg.

Yeah it is! I used it mostly for taking the dog out and doing the weekly shop etc. I use the SC430 rarely but when the weathers nice or I am seeing friends. Then I use my IS250 as a commuter car :)

Rev Lexus A Lincoln MKS awd aka (fancier version of the Ford Taurus) Im dying to get out of it. i dont want to get stuck with a $3,400 bill to replace the water pump and timing chain. Parts are cheap. the problem is where they’re located. (labor) Now im looking at an 07-09 Lexus RX 350. (nvr owned one before) Im trying to get my current loan down to 1-2gs. trade the lincoln in and get my RX. Im debating if i should look for one with nav and back up camera or just live wo it. Got my TomTom from 4 years ago.
