Thanks great video. Just FYI , the Purple Wire you mentioned at the Distributor connector (wire # 3) is the REF signal (120 degree signal) from the Distributor back to the CPU. The Purple w/ White wire (# 1) on the distributor connector is CPU ignition control to the distributor, it turns on and off the Transistor - which controls the primary coil on and off and therefore controls when Spark occurs. Also, the Nissan Manual calls for Base timing at 10 degrees +/_ 2 degrees BTDC @ ~ 750 RPMS. In addition, 12 v power into distributor is Wire # 7 and Ground into distributor is wire # 2. Once again thanks so much for your video

@@georgeowen3506 PIN 1. Ignition transistor, a digital square wave input into this pin from the CPU triggers the coil to fire for every cylinder. You need a Scope to confirm proper operation of this signal. PIN 2. Ground wire to body ground to provide the transistor a path to ground in order for the transistor to discharge to ground. You can test this wire/pin by using a 12 volt test light, one end of test light to 12 v on battery and the pointed tip of the test light to pin 2, at all times whether the ignition is on or off the test light should light up brightly. PIN 3. Is an output from the distributor camshaft position sensor, this signal is a square wave output that detects every 1 degrees of rotation of the engine, this information is used by the CPU to determine fuel injector timing and piston position. You need a scope to confirm this output is working properly. PIN 4. Is an output that detects the 1 degree rotation of the engine is used with crankshaft speed sensor to determine engine misfire. You need a scope to confirm this output is working properly. PIN 5. 12 v power in from ecm relay to camshaft position sensor. 12v required here whenever ignition is on. PIN 6. Ground for camshaft position sensor and provides ground for shield wire, to reject noise. PIN 7. 12 v to ignition primary circuit, 12v required here whenever ignition is on. PIN 8. Ignition check detection wire/pin, detects the coil has fired, if coil firing not detected, service engine soon light will come on. Called the MIL light.

It usually means the oil pump rod is not lining up down in the center. See if it’s an Allen on the bottom shaft of the distributor and go down and turn the pump or. You’ll have to bump the motor over until it drops down. But your risk being off a tooth

I own 4 Pathfinders and 2 Qx4s. And have owned, fixed, sold many more. The factory Distributor almost always has a bearing failure. This throws rust all over the inside of the Distributor and causes the no start, or allows the main shaft to slide and this movement physically destroys internal parts. It is very difficult to replace that bearing but can be done. I ONLY use Japanese parts. What causes the bearing to fail? Too much spring tension on the very bottom gear. Its held in with a small roll pin. Remove it and cut ONE coil off the spring, sand the cut end to deburr it. AFTERMARKET Distributors, Almost all companies sell the same 2 Chinese built units. They ALL have bearing failure in a VERY short time. China copied the OEM part but used a far lower quality bearing. To make the cheap bearing last longer remove the roll pin and cut one coil off the spring. Also when the bearing completely fails it falls into the engine and destroys the Distributor and cam gear.

I removed the distributor cap and cam sensor and found rust and small metal fragments laying inside the distributor. Is that a sign of my bearing going out and what do you recommend I do at this point?

Fuel pressure is fine. I realized the rotor is not spinning so it is the timing belt.
@faustogonzalez8397
@faustogonzalez8397 3 жыл бұрын
There are many problems that can create a no start situation. 1st you need to confirm the distributor is not putting out spark to the spark plug wires, this would confirm you have a distributor problem. Then you need to confirm the correct voltage levels at the distributor connector input. There are several input and output signals/v dc values at this connector that are required for the distributor to operate correctly. In addition, ignition timing has to be correct, fuel has to be delivered to the fuel injectors and compression has to be checked on engine. You did not supply enough information to help you directly fix this situation.

The Purple wire #3 on the distributor connector is an output from the Distributor to the CPU, its called the 120 degree signal. The vehicle needs to be running to view this signal on a Scope. The distributor connector requires 12 v in via Black/White wire pin #7 on the distributor connector. Ground into the distributor is via wire # 2, Black/Red wire. If you do not have 12 volts in at wire # 7 , then you need to check the ignition switch , which is required to provide this 12 v in.

I would call it studdering cranking. :) It does finally start and runs great. I thought it might be the starter, so I changed it, but that didn't help.
