Just bought a 25-acre wooded property that's gonna need some work, plus I intend to put an RV trailer on it. I need a workhorse vehicle that can yank around a decent-sized RV or a UTV or a subcompact tractor or the like, and there's a 2004 S for sale not too far for me with 100K, asking price is 8 grand. I'm about this close (holds tips of thumb and forefinger half an inch part) to pulling the trigger on it.

I asked the dealership what's the catch. "No catch, we're just not reaching the right audience so we're gonna try one last push before it goes to auction." So I drive an hour and a half to go look at it, and sure enough as soon as it starts up I hear the tell-tale noise of cylinder scoring. Did they think I wasn't gonna hear a noise like the sound of a tinker's overture under the hood, or that I'd just overlook it? Thanks for wasting 3 hours of my time, a-holes.

I know nothing about cars but just came across a 2004 Cayenne with 200,000 miles, for $4000. The owner said all they have really had to do on it has been a new battery and alternator 3 years ago and said that it will need brakes done soon. I can't tell if that's a good thing or bad thing because I feel like many things need general replacement by a whopping 200,000 miles?

How's the reliability been ~1 year later. I always thought these cars were nightmares, but upon some research, it seems they have a handful of common problems / design flaws (such as plastic coolant pipes through the intake that melt overtime, etc) that once sorted with proper replacement parts (expensive upfront $) these trucks become fairly reliable after that and commonly see 150k+ miles. So if you can find a higher mileage Cayenne that has already been sorted, it seems like a great value for a decently reliable sport oriented truck.
@thedriverscorner3 жыл бұрын
It’s overall been pretty good! I did coil packs, motor mounts, still needs a driver side valve cover gasket, and the water pump pulley is in wobble mode... But hasn’t not started... and is over 160k miles now.. been on a few long trips..

@@thedriverscorner Funny, we have the same two cars, a C5 (mine is a 2001, the best C5 year as far as reliability), and a 2004 Cayenne. I just picked up the Porsche for $4500, around the same mileage as your and check this out, *the headliner has the EXACT same sagging issue!* 🤦♂️ I am an expert with the C5 and I get contacted from all over the planet on issues that it can or will experience, as well as how to fix them. I have done a ton of writeup's for that car alone and have pretty much fixed every issue myself, including the head gaskets. That's not a common C5 issue unless you overheat the engine for long enough. I've even experienced the broken block issue with the starter snapping away. Fixed that too. So do you have a video on the Cayenne headlight upgrade or was it just a bulb swap? I definitely want to make sure that I have maximum lighting at night as I can't see as well as I use to. Also, how did you fix the headliner, or have you? That's the FIRST thing I want to do after I fix the broken hatch hinges. I'm gonna be using this car as my daily driver and I pack a lot of equipment around and can't be using a broom stick to hold the hatch open! 🙄
@thedriverscorner3 жыл бұрын
I plan to fix the headliner when I do my hatch shocks too... haha. headlight upgrade was just a bulb at the moment.. but I’m working on a bigger headlight mod this summer. $4500 is a great deal!! I love my C5.. great car for the money!!
@Junkman20083 жыл бұрын
@@thedriverscorner 😄😄 So the saggy headliner and the hatch hinges are common to this model. Yep, been there already with the C5! Oh well, I've got nothing but time on my hands since I got married and quit chasing women so I guess that I will be doing another crash learning course on this car. One thing that I am known for on the internet is my paint work and this one needs some work up front so I will be doing a video on that. One quick repair that really comes in handy with the C5 is the DRL replacement, which you can do at a gas station with no tools. I show that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJK4dqJ6Z6h7as0 It will come in handy for you once your bulbs burn a crack into the plastic housing. The best way to fix that is to get away from the stock bulbs and go with LED's. That will eliminate the heat issue, which will eventually burn another crack or hole into the lenses if you decide to replace the messed up ones. I've saved a ton of people money with that repair if your C5 still has the stock front fascia. I have a Tiger Shark on the front of mine so I can't do it that way anymore. 😒
@OverlandTT3 жыл бұрын
The plastic never melts, it crack because of the pressure. Had my Cayenne S 5 years, bought it with the original plastic pipes all perfect at 12 years old. I managed to break them within a month of ownership doing 0-60 timed runs. Since I replaced them it’s never been an issue. This has also been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned even thought it’s driven the hardest. (Prev include ZJ,WJ,WK Jeeps in Petrol and diesel, Mercedes,Nissan and Peugeot). I’d buy it over again.
