I have a Cayenne 4.5s and totally agree with your comments in the video. It’s a great car with a fantastic engine! I won’t part with mine at all. Just keep in mind the running costs and when things start to break. I have experienced that this year with rubber hoses and radiators! Expensive, but once done, I hopefully don’t have to worry about it. Other tip, get yourself a good Porsche specialist to carry out servicing and works!

Totally agree, get a garage that knows Porsche, I am fortunate to live in "Porsche-Land" and I have an specialist who only repairs Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini at a very good price. Otherwise going to the Porsche Dealership will cost you a fortune.

After years and years (20, really) of being in love with this generation of Porsche Cayenne, I decided to purchase one earlier this year, and I could not be happier. The V8 sounds and the build quality are worth the experience just by themselves. For all of those who are considering one and can find a clean unit with a replaced cooling system, I can’t recommend it enough.

Hi Joel, I had one (2003 in Blue) for about 18 months, a year or so ago. I loved it. 15mpg is about what I got with 22mpg on a run. The Turbo, be prepared for 12mpg (ask Dean). Parts prices are a bit steep. Lots of niggly things went wrong for me over that period. But would I have another? YES !

@@E50AK Mine has now 146K Km and was build on 2004, so in a couple of month it will be 20 years old. The major issue I had until now was the drive shaft, costs of 700 Euros including repairs. Besides that I had the issue of the Xenon headlights not leveling properly. Else all is fine and for me is still a keeper. I would purchase it again. Mine does not have air suspension as those tend to cause lots of trouble and even though I live in Porsche-Land (Southern Stuttgart) This things get quick very expensive.

@@migueljohnson432 Thanks for the tip mate! I don't live in Porsche land so that fix could probably be a 1000 for me, instead of 700. Still reasonable, I was planning to keep aside 2000 for the repairs anyway. Did you face any issues with the gearbox and overheating yet? As I've heard a few people complain about it in the V8 models. Curious to know if it's the same with the V6. Thanks again! :)
@migueljohnson432
@migueljohnson432 9 ай бұрын
@@E50AK Yes, the V8 is a diva, this was the main reason I went with the V6 natural aspirated. If you take care (wait until is at temperature before driving at high revs, etc...) then is an engine that would last forever. No overheating issues, no gearbox problems, other than the "normal" tiptronic behaviour, that sometimes when going into 4th from 5th it smashes the gear abruptly in. It keeps giving me a heartache every time it does, but I heard, it is "normal" with those old tiptronic gearboxes.

Aged so well, I thought it looked weird at 1st but now it looks so classy compared to the modern crap. Cayennes are different class to range rovers. Excellent content Joel! I share your sentiment with the Cayenne, used to think they were hideous and now I own a Turbo one myself! I think they’re the best looking Cayenne they’ve ever made! I would definitely fork out an extra 2/3K and get a Turbo model. (maybe slightly impartial being a Turbo owner) However, the amount you get extra as standard with the Turbo and sheer performance you get, is definitely the sweet spot. Only thing the Cayenne S has over the Turbo, is a sweeter soundtrack. However I’m sure an exhaust modification can sort that out 😉

I happily waft along in my 650BHP 957 Turbo S and smile when I put it in Sport and hit the loud pedal, proud that the fuel gauge is going down visibly and my current MPG is reading zero. If you’re worried about MPG then you wouldn’t be anywhere near a beast like this or any other gas guzzler. Oh and they are ugly but mine is the exception which proves the rule. Basically these cars need a body kit.

Joel as usual great review, I've lusted after these since they first came out with the 957 GTS being my model of choice, after years of BMW patronage I ditched my 7 series and got a Porsche, surprisingly I was enchanted by panamera turbo instead, I love it to bits but now think a 957 is till warranted, maybe a leggy 957 diesel or cheap GTS,if I'm lucky. The build quality is excellent, and the aftermarket support is immense, I get the Porsche thing now, buy top of the range and the level of engineering and equipment at this level is second to none. I'm porsche for life now and can't wait until you get a tubo, but save some cash and get a 957 it really is the sweet spot if the series, the 955 is an ugly duckling, says the guy with a 970 panamera 😂😂

I bought a Gen 1 base Cayenne a few years back after my 3rd L322 gave up on me. I found the power was a little lacking but I still fell in love with it and it started my obsession with Porsche (Cayenne was followed by a Boxster then a 911). Like others have said they drink fuel and eat tyres, so you’ll need to budget for that, and mine had a few issues (mostly electronic - lights and parking sensors especially in the winter) oh and the driveshaft which packed up on me, but if you find a good VAG mechanic a lot of the parts are shared with the Touareg (including the driveshaft!) so maintenance costs can be reduced a little. For me the sweet spot would be the 957 GTS - slightly sharper styling, nice interior upgrades and the best sounding exhaust imo. I often find myself trying to man math another onto my drive but the fuel consumption ultimately puts me off pulling the trigger again! Keep up the great content Joel!

no questions about that this is car that is "expensive" but cheap quality car at upfront and a money pit after it's bought.

I could be wrong here but it appears you filmed this superb content in the Finchingfield area? I took my E86 for a blast in and around there last month, lovely.

I wouldn’t say it’s ugly, but time has helped its looks. The Range Rover still looks so much better though, but neither vehicle is one I’d purchase any way.

If you're wanting a Cayenne, I think the Turbo S is the only way to go and hard to resist the 521 bhp. If you're on the fence about a Turbo at 450 bhp, I'd say go for the Range Rover Sport Supercharged V8 which is 385 bhp and you won't be disappointed. I've had a few RR Sport Supercharged and they are great cars, but for me the Turbo S and 521 bhp is really tempting. Just make sure you have deep pockets to deal with the ongoing maintenance let alone the times it breaks down and needs big repairs. More bhp the better 🤣

The problem with that is it was ahead of its time in styling, I looked at a few but the 1st one i tested had a horrible shake and noise and the 2nd i put a deposit on as it was lovely but the day before i was to pick it up i got a call that a head gasket had gone, i could wait a week until the garage sorted it but it put me off. I ended up buying a mint BMW X5 e53 and i honestly like it a lot. I keep looking at Cayennes tho but it would have to be a turbo 👍👍👍

My Parents had one, swapped an X5 for it, it was actually brilliant!! until you’ve had one you don’t respect it. I removed one year it got snowed in like up to its wheel arches, and it just pulled off the drive as if nothing was there. Comfortable as well. More so than my disco 4. I have a soft spot for them I’d have one over an l322 but not an l405, black turbo one on autotrader for 13,995 in Bedford looks minter

Having owned 2 Cayennes in the past I prefer the TDV8 Range Rover I have now. I found the Cayennes very unreliable and absolutely atrocious on fuel. Typically 12 to a gallon driven carefully.

Burning the same type of fuel, I doubt there is much difference though, reasonably it should be in the cayennes favor if anything.

Lol are you saying that range rovers are better than Porsches when it comes to reliability LOL your statement has officially been debunked by the evidence of range rovers being one of the most horrific unreliable pieces of garbage you could ever have. My brother in law went and bought 3 back to back and all have been piles of amphibian shit! He gave up on them and went with Mercedes instead.

IDK! I had a 2011 Cayenne S. It was considerably more expensive to maintain than my 2002 ML55. Was NOT faster. Did Handel less “truck like” but, reliability is definitely Lacking… Still own that ML… dumped the Porsche. FYI I’m a Porsche guy, own a 1986 951 for going on 3 decades I was planning on keeping the Cayenne forever too
