Wow you did say a 2004 FLHRC I replaced the starter with a chrome polish starter and I didn't do any of that tapped it with a dead blow hammer and out it came not understanding what is going on with your Road King compared to mine

Did you check the battery charge status before embarking into the starter replacement? To me, the sound you got in the beginning was typical of a flat battery.

I did. The new starter took care of it. I was of the same opinion at first, but after the starter replacement, it whirled right over. Thanks for watching!

Just curious, does the exhaust have to come off?

Not the entire exhaust, but the rear cylinder....yes. Otherwise, it would be next to impossible to get the starter out. Thanks for watching!

I cannot get mine out. I have disassembled all you did but the starter is stuck somewhere. Pulling my last bit of hair out.

As long as you have removed the hardware holding it in from the left side, give it a little wiggle and it should come right out. Thanks for watching!
