2004 Sugar Bowl - #1 Oklahoma vs. #2 Louisiana State Highlights

The 2004 Sugar Bowl featured Heisman-winning QB Jason White and the #1 Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) and the #2 Louisiana State Tigers (12-1). The game was filled to the brim with controversy, however, as #1 Oklahoma had gotten into the game despite having lost 35-7 to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game. Many felt that #3 Southern California (who were ranked #1 in both the AP and Coaches Poll) should have been in the game playing LSU. Despite the controversy, however, Oklahoma was a touchdown favorite over LSU.
RB Justin Vincent, LSU, was the game's MVP.

@@kylegross1081 Again. Why Auburn , which was UNDEFEATED IN 2004 and 05 Season, wasn't invited to play USC in the National Championship? The SEC is a STACKED CONFERENCE compared to USC's bullshyt Pac-10 Conference. USC also has a bad time going against Notre Dame. While SEC teams like LSU just blows Notre Dame out the water! Don't act like USC is "all that" which they ain't.

Chris Taylor Oklahoma backed into the Sugar Bowl. Darren Sproles ran all over the OU defense. Yeah it was only a 7 point loss for Oklahoma but LSU had control of the entire game.

LSU had like 7 guys on that D that all ended up having 5+ year NFL careers. And Nick Saban as a coach. No one was going to beat them that night. Score was not indicative of just how in control LSU was for the entire game.

Jason White was beat to hell by the end of the season and his repaired knees just couldn’t hold up. We were number 1 in the computers and had been number 1 in every bcs ranking. And USC would have for sure kick the shot outta y’all. How can I say that? Easy, you guys could only beat us by 7 in front of a home crowd and A year later when we had a better team usc flat dominated

Oklahoma would have been better off and might have had a chance to win this game had backup QB Paul Thompson got the start instead of Jason White who clearly was injured and not himself all night long. Thompson saw plenty of action playing in 10 games that year as the backup QB and his athletic mobility might have made the difference against LSU's defense.

Zenigundam Larry had an amazing season and he’s a HOF no doubt but they ended the season losing 3 of 4 and he had 2 duds to finish the year. Jason White was incredible all season but unfortunately he was playing injured in the conf title game and national title game.

USC were the real 2003 national champions. The Associated Press ranked them No. 1, and even several coaches broke protocol and voted USC No. 1. They lost one game in 3 OT on the road; lsu had a bad loss. LSU’s 2003 “title” and their 2007 2-loss team are both major asterisks.
