Just replaced the rack on my 2007 GX470. What I learned is that if you remove the passenger's side tie rod as shown in many videos AND remove the return hose nipple that screws into the rack and pinion valve body with a 17mm wrench, you can slide the rack out without removing the engine oil filter housing. Still need to drop the sway bar but that is super easy.

Cool. Nothing like having to do an oil change just because you are working on something else, eh?
@sdparksMS32 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting this video! The part where you show how to wiggle the rack out without having to remove the oil filter housing was especially helpful. I'll be reusing my existing inner and outer tie rods so I just disconnected the inners from the rack and pushed them aside without separating the inners and outers or removing the outers from the steering knuckles.

Bro! I love your accent coupled with your unintentional Humor...I was laughing outloud. Thankfully I found my leak in one of the rubber high pressure hoses coming off of the rack, but watched this just in case And for the Laughs Also! Where are you from and are you a self employed mechanic or just working it on the side? You truly are talented either way. Keep up the good Werk!

Why did you need to remove the driver's side inner tie rod and boot from the new rack prior to setting the rack back in place? Is it a necessary thing to do to get the rack to fit back in place?

Its definitely an improvement to go to electronic power steering. It has its own headaches if it fails but you’re def not replacing for small leaks that’s for sure.

I just replaced my power steering pump, but it seems as if I need to do the rack. Not leaking, but it is stiff to turn. Could it be just the steering shaft?
@RustBeltAuto2 жыл бұрын
Cannot say for sure. I have had ball joints do that, and defective remanufactured pumps.

Did you ever figure a solution? I am having the same issue.
@chrismemphis80622 ай бұрын
@@evanbuss7638 yes, it was the ujoint on the steering shaft. And yes, it was a real bastard to change. Hard to reach and has to be air hammered off.

I've noticed every tie rod I remove are on from 14 to 19 turns doesn't matter what kind of car it falls in that range if done alignment at home for years and can get it dead on then I took a job at a new shop and they have an alignment rack so I learned how to use it and it's twice as fast as the home way but the same results

They keep getting better. My former Toy dealer had a rig that could read your alignment as you drove past.
