The fastest lap that year is still the lap record today... faster than any 2021 car.

W11 Mercedes did 1:27:264, and 2021 bahrain pole lap was almost second faster than that so

Copmaring this to his 2023 pole lap, you can see how much more aggresivley he steers the Renault. This was his prefered driving style at the time, but as the cars got more sensetive, he adapted his style to be more smooth. H elooks at home in noth the Renault and Aston Martin. Many world class drivers like Sebastian Vettel or Colin McRae struggled to adapt when new breeds of cars came along, but Alonso has proven that his greatest strength is probably adaptability.

I feel like Nando's best abilities are more subtle than some other greats. While everyone knows about Senna's rain skills, Lewis qualy laps, Schumi and Max race pace, Fernando is much more about being able to adapt to any car and drive it to its limits

@@martimxavier9690 Yeah, if you look at onboards of the MP4/22, it looks like the car was designed for Kimi. You had to be really sensetive on the front end to drive that thing. Fernando still took himself to 3rd in the standings and just 1 point away from Kimi even though he had to basically flip his driving style on its head. And if he hadn't had crashed in Fuji, he would have been World Champion easily in 2007 (the crash did appear to be his fault though. Also, Kimi not being World Champion would have just not been fair).

Jraybay in terms of the lap, possibly, in terms of the temperature that weekend, definitely not. The 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix went down in history as the hottest Grand Prix on record, 42°C in the shade in terms of air temperature and up to 53°C in terms of track temperature

Due to the not great nature of the aggregate qualifying, this wasn't the actual pole lap, that was from the Sunday morning

what is the black and white spinning in the top right

If it's spinning, it's probably Nikita Mazepin

In the UK, F1 was shown on ITV that year (who show commercials). This black and white "spinner" indicator was to say they were going to an advertisement break. No idea why the audience was able to see it though, but it was common across live programming on ITV/Channel 4 back in the day.
