Brief tutorial on how to replace an EGR Valve on a 2005 Dodge Dakota. Not hard, but it is in a really annoying location.

So I have the exact same truck. P0406 code came up with check engine light. After watching this video and after realizing my local mechanic was unavailable, I decided to give it a try. This was my first EGR replacement and I hope like hell that it's my last. This was one of the most irratating DIY mechanic endeavours thus far. Thanks for sharing the video.

The part itself cost me just over $30 My '05 Ram 1500 stalls out at low RPMs as well and the code my truck brings up is my EGR code And with a few hours of labor I could have my truck running as good as new! Thanks for the tips on what to use man! Greatly appreciated!

good video, thanks, saved a lot of time from having to dig through the manual and removing the air filter to find it not there....

was it hard?

3 hrs for me because of the small cramped quarters.

Even if you have the tools its pretty hard because of the cramped quarters...but its doable.

Harbor Freight sells a "quick release hex socket extension & angled bit holder" for $15 This greatly helped remove and reinstall the 8mm bolts that hold the tube in place. Dont know how i would have managed without it. Took me 90 minutes total. All of the existing bolts were relatively loose and did not need much effort to remove.

I had a hard time seating the tube to the back of the throttle body. Check engine lights came back on p0404 (egr) did you seat the tube in the throttle body first and then tightened the bolts to the egr? I may have to reseat them at way.

Do not try to remove that pipe before taking it out. It's about impossible. You don't need to because the pipe just can come out with the EGR valve and then you can disconnect it. You may have to loosen the closer bolt on that pipe though to get it back in and then tighten it when it's in place.

The egr hose will get in your way of removing the egr valve it’s only 2 8mm bolts remove it and a lot easier for getting the egr valve out hope this helps ciao

Great video thanks, I need to change mine. Is it possible to remove the EGR tube from the intake manifold by just unscrewing the tube mounting bolt??......then removing it completely after unscrewing the other end from the EGR Valve assembly... If yes, then access to that rear-most bolt might be easier.??
@Shokenryu7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible but that rear bolt is so close to the firewall. You'd still have the struggle.
@ramsey48810 жыл бұрын
Yeah I couldn't find it before either. Why did you change the valve? I had it suggested to me because my truck is stalling out at low rpm

I had noticed high revving while driving. One day on the way home, check engine light came on. I changed the gas cap, and reset the battery. After a week it came back on. I took it to Advance Autoparts, and they ran diagnostics on it. It said it was the EGR valve. After A LOT of googling, I found a manufacturer manual, and was able to find the stupid thing. Replacing it engine light.

here is a video of the location of the EGR valve for a Dodge Durango 2006 in a 4.7 liter engine. The video shows the location only but not the change process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYq0aIaojZ6jY8k

I cannot absolutely find it on an 2001 Dodgr Durango 4.7L Help?!?!??!!

$600 is completely unfair for an EGR valve replacement on this vehicle. An reasonable to somewhat expensive shop should charge $80/hour of work, plus parts. It took me two hours, (most of the time finding the part). The part was somewhere around $50. Therefore, it should have cost no more than $200 (and I consider that expensive... $150 to $175 sounds fair for this part). I always go to local chains for my repairs. Meaning, a place that has 5-6 shops in my local area. I never go to gas stations, or to big chains like Sears because I don't trust the mechanics in there. The shops I've been to, and would recommend: Mass Tire, Windsor Tire, New England Tire & Automotive. You probably don't have these around you, but these are the kinds of places that I look for. Usually located near your town center. Good luck all.

I used to be a mechanic years ago when they were somewhat honest. I havent seen any recently that didnt try to screw me. Not that they're all bad. Its just that the odds of finding bad ones as consistent as I have just doesnt fit the probabilty to possibility ratio.

leaky gasket.

The EGR tube has 2 gaskets where it enters behind the throttle body. Good luck with the inner gasket.

You dont need to remove pipe for EGR replacement. It's easier keeping it attached then swapping the pipe to new EGR when its out.
@rupertturner73113 жыл бұрын
There’s no way your going to bolt down the Egr valve with the hose attached clearly you have not done this before
@castersen133 жыл бұрын
@@rupertturner7311 bullshit I rebuilt a 4.7 Dakota motor. I have a video series on rebuilding the heads.
@castersen133 жыл бұрын
I didn't say hose I said pipe. Their is a copper pipe attached to the EGR that bolts to the drivers side head. Its easier to access the bolts for a pipe connect to the block that disconnecting it from EGR.
@rupertturner73113 жыл бұрын
Egr hose, tube or pipe what ever you want to call it no that would be stupid to not remove it when your going to remove it anyways when replacing the egr valve your off your rocker mate if you have a 1/4 swivel socket its super easy and the tube has to come off anyways to attach to the new one and it makes it easier to undo the egr bolts so if you rebuilt a 4.7 you should know this pal
@castersen133 жыл бұрын
@@rupertturner7311 Your wrong. I've removed the EGR from a Dodge Ram just using a extension and small rachet from a junk yard. Unbolting the pipe from block is easier. It took 2 minutes if that.

I stopped watching because the video is vertical. Sorry. But 60% black screen isn't helpful.
@92clintonr4 жыл бұрын
If you're watching how to mechanical videos and you're not able to use good advice because of which format the video is recorded in you should probably just hop in your vehicle and drive it over to the nearest shop so a qualified person can complete your task.
