This is just a quick compilation of videos and info to help with the task at hand. Sorry if I forgot anything, or the order is a little off since it was a very long day. Don't forget to disconnect the battery, support the vehicle, support the engine, and before you turn the engine over after pulling the pin make sure the pin raises to the 7-9mm range before turning the engine or else it might jump a tooth and you'll have to line the marks up again. Taking the crank pulley off will require a little pulling pressure on the pulley while using a punch to hit the roll pin to separate them.

THANK YOU!!! I "only" need to replace a serpentine belt on a 2009, but that outboard serpentine belt tensioner arm is the biggest PITA engineering idiocy i have come across in a long time. This is the ONLY video i found that showed me what is going on, and this is after several weeks of posting to the two English language forums i found and not getting an answer whatsoever. Seems the world bout 4 bangers and i was worried i was the only person with a 6. Many thanks!

I marked the old cracked belt with red paint at the three timing marks before I removed it. Then transferred the marks to the new belt and put it on. It was a tight fit but removing the front idler wheel and putting it back on after the belt was in place wasn’t hard.

Sorry to hear. You could always do a leak down test before ripping it apart to at least get and idea of what is wrong. Also double check the timing cause I know the tensioner didn't fully engage when I rotated the first time allowing the damn belt to slip a tooth and having to redo it again lol.

Im having a problem removing the crankshaft pulley. I have the bolt out but I cant pull the pulley all the way off. In fact, I cant even get it far enough off to back out the lower timing cover bolts behind it. It wiggles, but then pulls itself back in. What am I missing? Do I need to remove the tensioner/idler pulley first? Does the belt have to loosen for me to get to slide right off?

Thanks for the video to document this task. Two questions, in addition to the timing belt replacement, what other items did you replace while access was available? Even though I plan to have my KIA dealer do this work, could you explain briefly the purpose of the "Pin" that you spoke of. When is in put in place and when is it removed? I take it, that it prevents movement of some sort, maybe?

I have a question. How did you remove crank pulley bolt? Is in any special tool to hold it from spinning?
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Impact is the easiest. They do make a pulley holder online you can purchase, it's a pretty good size and a good selection of pin sizes for an affordable price. There is a method of putting a rachet on the bolt and resting it against a solid object and flick the key for a second and it'll break it loose enough to take out. That method is at own risk, plus if it does break loose you still need to figure out how to tighten properly. The pulley holder can come in handy for all kinds of things.

hey good video,im going to be doing my girls,do them sprockets move easy, cause i hear everybody talking about that one sprocket moving every time they pull that pin out to add tension to the belt,i see you put a breaker bar there to hold it,one guy was taling about set it back a tooth then do it,then another guy said you dont even have to do that just use the slack coming from right to let and the tension-er would fall wright in place

another question when i get the belt on,do i set the tensor first are crank it 2 times by hand to get it on tdc then pull that pin
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive 5 жыл бұрын
After you get everything installed you pull the pin and let it sit for a few minutes to fully tighten. Then slowly rotate just to make sure the tensioner is extended fully. Cheaper systems the pin sometimes gotta be pulled then put back in then installed. Never had to really adjust for this engine for marks. Just watch the video again before doing it, even a couple that way it's etched in your mind lol.

I just disconnected the battery lol. Sometimes certain books have way more steps then there should, or the dealer says engine must be dropped when it truly doesn't. Careful application of heat. Induction would be best. Other then the fluids and working it around try tapping to give it vibration to break the corrosion loose. It can be very frustrating when things are like that. There also may be a puller that could work in that situation. Hopefully you can get it!

Why are there so many AMERICANS still using STANDARD size sockets on cars. America. The Automotive Industry in the USA have not used standard size nuts and bolts (aka fasteners) on American made cars and trucks since 1978. Lug nuts or bolts are most generally one of 3 sizes. 19, 21 and 22 millimeter. Stop using standard sized sockets and wrenches for vehicles natured after 1978. They are all metric and have been for 45 years.

Hi, I have a question, can you tell me how much the cylinder compression of this engine?Both hot and cold
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive 7 жыл бұрын
david veintimilla I don't have exact numbers, but done compression on a couple which was right around 160-170 range. The higher the better! If it starts getting lower it usually indicates wear and possibly how it is maintained. Have a Honda right now with 300k+ on it at 120 and still seems to run good, but if you compare to the same vehicle with higher compression you should be able to tell a difference in performance. Hope this helps! I'm sure there are forums with the required information.
@davvid70
@davvid70 7 жыл бұрын
thank you for you reply, i have the Delta V6 2.7 whith 150K, my mechanic tested the compression and the result was 120psi on all cylinders, i worry that it is very low, but the engine was cold and the accelerator pedal was not floored thoroughly, this is why i wanted to know if maybe you tried the cold engine to compare, could it be that the compression is low because the engine was cold, additional the injectors were just installed, thank for you aswering and time
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive
@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive 7 жыл бұрын
david veintimilla you're welcomed! I've still got the same compression on cold engines, even though it goes up slightly when warm. Could just be age, or possibly the tester might not be sealed properly. A leak down test can determine where the most wear is most times.

Fadi Gholam I know what you mean! Usually when you take them off it requires a lot of rotations, that with the axle out, or dropping sub frame an inch or two. I usually eye it before doing anything else and go from where it's going to be the fastest and easiest to remove. Sometimes manuals will include extra steps when you can actually skip it. Hope this helps and hope you find what you're looking for! Also try searching in images which can take you to forums with detailed instructions.
