I drive a white one and it's a lovely vehicle I must say. I bought it brand new in 2006 and it's 17 years this year and I have never really had a problem with it. I am pretty meticulous with the maintenance and I do it myself. It's a direct injection car so I use severe maintenance schedule and I change my oil & filter every 6 months or 7500km with full synthetic 5w30, and also drain and fill my coolant & ATF every 5years or 80000km with Toyota longlife & WS fluid only. I use CRC GDI Valve cleaner, CRC MAF sensor cleaner & CRC throttle cleaner annually. I also use premium fuel (95 Oct) only All electronics are still working. From South Africa.

@@wilsonhung8654😢 I’m sorry to hear that my friend. That is one of the greatest Lexuses and it’s suppressing that the transmission could die so early in its life. Even though they say the transmission has a lifetime fluid, you shouldn’t buy it. You must change the transmission fluid at least every 90000kms or 6years whichever comes first. And you must use only Toyota ATF fluid as per the owner’s manual and nothing else.
@wilsonhung86548 ай бұрын
@@brian7523 Thanks. The transmission is stuck in the low gears (3rd and below I suppose). As such, the rpm would be higher than usual all the time. It costs around 3 grams to fix the transmission. Keeping the car doesn't make sense anymore. 😒

I'm with my 2nd GS300, I had a bit of maintenance to do on them (an O2 sensor, a bearing, some silentblocks on my 2006 and until now only maintenance items on my 2007) but this is nothing compared to the 2 Volvos I had before. From 2007 and on they have 18" wheels and bigger brakes available, this is one thing to know if you consider one. The styling is beautiful, the fastback rear end is distinctive from most midsize luxury sedans. The standard equipment is mind-blowing too. It was the only car in its class to feature keyless entry, xenon headlights, a 10-speaker sound system and leather upholstery from the get go. There are a lot, a lot of reason to love these cars.

This body style is from the best Lexus design era, the beginning of the “L-finesse” design language. Simple and clean but with a unique profile, it predated the “4-door coupe” style popular today. The next iteration of the GS looks ordinary; this design looks unique. I have a 2008 IS that I’d trade for a GS in a heartbeat. It has the same clean lines, uncluttered and intuitive dashboard and center console and the same thoughtful details that make it unique.

I’ve got a black one of these and I love it to bits. Needed a bit of sorting out so turned out not to be the absolute bargain I hoped, but total costs ended up being about the going rate for a good one so I can’t really complain. One thing to note, all 3 uk versions of the 2005-2007 model require the old V5 fuel not the new e10 crap. Mine averages 22mpg in town and 38mpg on the motorway, but when I drove up to the midlands the other Sunday I was amazed to see it averaging 42.8mpg.

Picked mine up in 2020 as a covid present (2005 3rd gen, low tax). Let's face it, there wasn't much else to do at the time apart from buy a dog or treat yourself to a car. 17.5 on the odo and now with just under 25 on the clock. Paid over the odds but well worth it. Beautiful machine. Get in after a shift and it's aaaaah land. Infotainment's not worth a toss but who cares. I think the American comparison is a bit of an insult to be honest. This car carved its own design niche and others followed: Jaguar XF; Vauxhall Insignia, et al. However, from one so young it's nice to hear you recognise the car's strengths from an owner/driver perspective. Great video, keep it up.

30mpg on an open road? Get it serviced. I get an overall average of 36mpg! What do I drive? A Lexus GS300 SE-L. It's a 2005 car with 144k miles on it...and I love it! I have a history of high class cars; Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Audi (A8 3.7 40valve Quattro); Jaguar and BMW. - and I'm now on my 3rd Lexus, having had an LS400 and an early GS300 with the straight six. I cover a lot of very varied miles with regular 400+ mile journeys and much local running. The car is very comfortable, impressively fast, relatively cheap to service and excellent on fuel. The latter I believe is all about driving style. I'm not slow, but I learned 50 years ago to adopt a smooth, fluid driving style with really does pay off. I'm proud of having achieved 111mpg on an urban journey in a Toyota CH-R that is supposed to get up to 78mpg. I find the boot space in my 300 to be quite adequate, I love to smoothness of the car overall. My 400 was smooth too; as were my many Cadillacs. I'm with you on the "land-yacht" description; and perhaps Lexus are akin to the big American cars in all but dimension. I've never found a road that presented difficulty; including some hair-raising Cornish lanes! Equipment levels are indeed outstanding when compared to other, European cars. Above all, the equipment is reliable - it does its job perfectly and repeatedly. I recommend that you try not to be in too much of a hurry to part with the 300. Give yourself the opportunity to really get used to the car ~ I think you could end up being very impressed indeed. I really enjoyed your report; one of the best car reviews I've seen. Excellent job; I shall watch for more
