I like your channel and have restored faith in the gx community. If you even asked on GXOR if that fluid was fine. They would lose their god damn mind. I bought a 2005 with 205k miles. Why would i want to dump tons of money for oem fluids when ive been using the generic brands for years on my other toyotas.

I use SafetyKleen oil for engine, gears and ATF and it is fantastic oil, 100% Synthetic and that company is the one that take the used oil from the autoparts and make new oil. So full life cycle and provides excellent protection. I do my oil changes every 8k to 9k miles

Hi ninja! Thanks for this video! I recently bought a 2005 Gx 470 (3 days ago) and when I put it in drive it takes a while to catch it, but when it does hits really hard… only happens when the car is cold, later in the day that symptom disappears. I’m really sad cause I need it a reliable car and I spend all my savings 😔…! Thanks for what you do! Peace!!! Sorry for my English, Spanish is my first language! ✌️

No problem. The transmission fluid is likely old and worn out, there could be other issues but I would start with a transmission fluid change like I go through in this video. You can ignore the differential fluid change and just focus on draining and filling the transmission fluid. You can buy the Valvoline MaxLife at WalMart. You need to drain and fill 3 times to actually get all the fluid changed because all the ATF does not come out each time. If you have a specific question you can ask me here. Gracias

How do you know when the transmission is full?
@GX470PracticalMaintenance Жыл бұрын
When the transmission is warmed up, you will notice that there are two drain plugs. One is recessed a bit up into the pan. That recessed one actually goes up a bit internally in the pan. Its purpose is to drain any excess fluid above its own level, when the GX is level. So get the transmission warmed up, turn it off, open that recessed plug and let any excess drain out, put the plug back, and you're good! What makes this nice is that its ok to add a little too much when you are filling it up, as the process allows you to get rid of the extra by virtue of checking the level. Hope that helps.

1/2", but you could use something close because the nozzle is cone shaped and can be cut as needed.

Why didn't you change the transmission filter?
@GX470PracticalMaintenance Жыл бұрын
Great Question! So most transmission "filters" aren't really filters, they are screens to catch big stuff from floating around. And if you neglect your transmission and fluid to the point of breakdown they can clog up and cause problems because they aren't allowing fluid to circulate and starve the pump. So.... From a preventative maintenance perspective there really isn't a need to replace it because we are preventing issues, not solving them. It is not a filter that is "filling up" like oil and air filters, but instead a screen that is there in case something bad happens. If you are having shifting problems then you are likely beyond just swapping fluid, or if you do swap fluid and still have issues then its time to consider greater measures and opening up the transmission. If your screen is clogged, its more of a signal that you have larger problems and should likely have a pro take a look. Far beyond what I would cover on this channel.
@davidlesley8884 Жыл бұрын
@GX470 Practical maintenance and updates I'm a certified technician and the screen is the filter and it's required to change it every 30,000 miles. So the information that you gave is incorrect. Changing the fluid and filter is highly recommended and it saves the user money in the future for preventive maintenance.
