2005 Subaru Forester XT silencer delete

My 2006 "facelift" Foz XT has had its snorkus removed and a cold air filter put in. It has a nice loud "SHHH-sh-sh-sh" sound when I boot it!

Heads up to anyone watching this that has a an NA 2.5 SOHC from like 05-09. The resonator or snorkus or whatever you want to call it is there to dampen the resonance of the air moving through the intake trackt. When you remove this, the MAF picks up this resonance and causes it over estimate the volume of air entering the engine. This in turn tells the ECU add more fuel and you end up with a major rich condition. The Air Fuel sensor will then see that and tell the ECU to subtract fuel. Not ideal for combustion and eventually you will nuke your catalytic converter. Just a heads up. But I agree, that thing is fucking ridiculous.

Even if you have an after market cold air intake will it cause this issue?

You don't need to take the front tire off. You will need to turn the wheel to take the silencer out from behind the fender liner. Also, to reach that but that holds the silencer, take out the foglight to get easy access.n there is a popit to take out and a 10mm nut up from the front, and 10 mm nut under the bottom of the foglight housing. Cools sounds can be heard from intake once silencer is off with your own opinion if performance is gained or not.

Thanks for the video. Was wondering what is the purpose of this? Would have been cool to hear the car on before n after so we can see the difference. Any check engine light after removing all that?

It's pre AFM, and no sensor.

Don't take it off. its to catch water when you're wading. from the inlet facing down to the silencer/water chamber. its all design to keep water out the intake.

Threads say that there is a +1 increase in boost, but with the use of a kn panel filter or aftermarket intake. Its mostly for intake noise to go along with the turbo spool...you take it for what it's worth doing or not, but most take it off .
