Excellent video. One step which I believe was skipped: On my bike (also a 2005 M50) I had to remove the top, back-half of the muffler; otherwise, I was not ablt to reach the castle nut to punch the axle through. To do this, I loosened the pinch nut (under side in the center of the top pipe, and removed the 2 mounting screws (the ones that connect the upper pipe to the lower - not the pair that mount the pipes to the frame)> Again, excellent video - everything was exactly as described!

Normally you would be correct. He had already swapped to Cobra pipes which gave enough clearance to reach everything as needed. Thanks for dropping in the instructions to do this with stock pipes. It only fits in a certain way. If I'm taking something apart that I have never dealt with, I'll take pictures of each step. This gives me a reference to put it back together. My old brain cant remember much these days :-)

Hi sir, please help me~ My drive shaft has leakage, fortunately I bought the drive shaft seal which is shown in yr video above. May I know do you need to remove the entire drive shaft to fit in the seal? Or just remove then wheels will do ? Please advise. thank you.

Did your friend trade in that bike at America's Motorsports? If so, I bought that bike. I recognize the saddle bags and the yellow cord used to hold them to the bracket.

Hey man, GREAT video!!! Still need to watch your front tire one too. Do you use anything specifically to clean the inside areas before you grease it and mount the tire back on? Just bought a 2006 M50 with 7,500 miles on it and the sidewalls are dry rotted so I need to change the tires before I take it out riding too much. Just need to know the cleaning part now and your video will help with all the rest. While I'm asking you stuff, you guys have a preference on tire brand?

David Turner Thanks, glad you liked the video! Got in touch with my buddy that owns that bike. He is running Pirelli tires and really likes them. He rides that bike pretty hard so he puts them to the test. As for cleaning, if there is any really dark grease just use a rag to wipe it out and put some fresh stuff in. The wheel bearings are sealed so you can't do anything with them other than change them if needed. If you rally want to get picky with the cleaning. Good 'ol brake cleaner does great. Please were eye protection when spraying that stuff. It burns like $^%%$ if it gets in your eyes!! Then paper towels to dry it all up. Then grease 'er up put it back together. Hope this helps!! Actually, the more I look at it, the more I'm sure this is my bike. I have the Perelli Route 66 tires installed, someone stitched the saddlebags where the zipper failed (like in the video). I do have a question for the owner of the bike: Did he ever check the final drive for proper lubrication, as it was an issue with some bikes, some of them just seized up. So far this has been a fantastic bike. Unfortunately I'm having to replace the rear tire as I found an inch and a half screw embedded in it. Good thing I had a plug kit. I feel good knowing that someone was taking care of the bike before me.

+Roger Medina Whenever he worked on the bike I was usually there. We just hang out together like that. We arent blood related but very much like brothers. He kept great care of the bike and everything was always checked. He is picky about his bikes. Where did you get your M50 from?

I bought it from America's Motorsports in Madison, TN back in November. First thing that tipped me off was the stitching on the zippers on the saddlebags, then the cord to tie them to the brackets, then the Pirelli tires. Great tires, I'm taking it this week to HDP in Hermitage to change out the rear since I pulled an inch and half screw out of it. Replacing it with the same tire. Glad to know that someone took care of the bike before me. Going to change out the coolant this next week and check valve clearances since I'll have the tank off. Great video! Do you have any more of work done on an M50?

Thats the bike!! I've personally put a few miles on it, sweet riding bike! I know the owner before my friend bought it, he may have ridden the bike 20 miles. I almost bought it, but I ended up getting the Shadow you see in the other videos. Now, the fella in the video with me, he and I rolled many miles together. The M50 performed flawless. Tires and a new battery was the only thing he ever had to do. My buddy traded that bike in on a Harley Roadking. He has lower back damage and needed a smoother ride. The Roadking is air-ride so that helped him ride more comfortable. The air box has been modded, there is a larger hole drilled to allow more air into the box. Poor bike was choking if you had to get into the throttle hard. Adding that hole really made the bike wake up and run much smoother on top end. He added the pipes just a short time after he bought it. I didn't get to shoot the video of that. He also added the Memphis Shade wind shield. You got a solid nice bike! I know that ride real well! Congrats a great ride!

+Andrew Tafoya The M50 just uses typical motorcycle engine oil. They are a wet clutch system so there is no separate "differential oil" like a Harley or custom trannys. Unfortunately I cant do a video on that bike anymore because my buddy traded that bike for a Harley Road King. As for how much, I can ask him because I don't know personally.

Same process for the C50 right? And how hard is it to get the axle lined back up when you put the tire back in??? 1 more thing do I have to pull the brake level off like that if im not replacing brakes?

Jeff Hamm Should be the same process. You may have to remove the top muffler if it doesn't allow the axle bolt to come out. Axle goes in easy, just make sure you grease it well to prevent any future issues. Just keep your parts in order so that they go back in like you removed them. Take pictures if it helps (I've done this several times on different projects). As for the brake lever .. if you are talking about the brake arm that keeps the brake shoe drum from spinning. You just need to disconnect it from the wheel end so that the wheel will come out after pulling the axle. Depending on clearance you may or may not have to remove it from the other end. As for the side cover that holds the shoes, it just kinda rides inside the wheel until the brakes are applied. So, You will need to take it out because it will slide out anyway trying to change the tire. Hope this helps ... Thanks for checking out the video. Have a great day!

Power Addicts - Jeep, car and motorcycle tips At about 4:00 into your video you say you are putting new shoes, so instead of you worrying about pulling "this" off...how does one remove that and put it back how it came off?

Jeff Hamm You could take a sharpie marker and paint the threads right next to the adjustment nut. By making the place, when you put it back together you have a good idea where to stop the adjusting nut. Also you can reinstall/adjust the adjusting nut until the rear brake engages the way you like it. But not too tight that the rear brake is "dragging" the bike back. Or, here is another option. At the top of the brake arm, remove that bolt. That will allow that arm to slide off without messing with the adjusting nut. Mark the placement before removing it. Marking it may not be needed because some bikes have that made to where it will only go back on in one position. This is only if you are putting the original brake shoes back in. If installing new shoes, the lining will be thicker therefore dragging the bike down. You will have to adjust the brake if installing new brake shoes. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

how you put that round break spring on the arm back on

Reversal of how it came off. Slide the washer on, then the spring, then pull the arm back to put the rod back in the arm. Tighten the adjuster nut until you get a slight drag from the brake shoes engaging on the wheel. Then back the adjuster nut off one or two turns. You may have to loosen or tighten to get the rear brake feel and engagement you like.

have you thought about greasing the drive shaft where it enters the back and front. Apparently it's a well known problem that it hasn't been greased at the factory. www.motorcycleforums.net/forum/marauder-m50-secret-hideaway/42206-attention-all-m50-owners-my-issue-resolved-fix-yours-now-b4-its-late-3.html Ends up rusting out and seizing up at high speeds.
