Just an update, this video does not apply to 2008 model year. At least the Limited and most likely 09 and 10 models. I just did my 2008 Limited with Boston Acoustic factory option. Just reading the title I assumed this would apply to my 2008 Commander, nope! The factory HU was a RER 730N. Touch screen was just about done for, made it impossible to use. Using the suggested accessories, I was able to retain complete functionality of the factory experience. I choose an Alpine iLX-F509 HU. Just amazing! Everything works, steering wheel volume controls, factory backup cam, not a single thing lost. Just a bad ass 9" wireless Car Play HU that should outlast the vehicle. Let's hope so, he's only 16 and boys will be boys. flawlessly Super simple now, not like this was difficult on this 06. These are my instructions based on the above specs: 1. Turn the key on and put the car in drive, to get gear shift leaver out of the way. 2. Disconnect Battery 3. Remove chrome ring around gear selector (only clips) 4. Remove black surround around the gear selector (only clips) 5. Remove rubber tray insert from the storage area at the bottom of the climate controls. 6. Remove Cross headed screw in the back on the storage area 7. From the bottom start prying off the climate controls. Just clipped in. 8. Remove 4 screws and remove factory Head Unit. 9. Done You no longer need to remove the 16 Alen bolts and remove the dash bezel. Just completely different in the 2008 that I have. The rest of the video is bang on.. Big shout out to these guys for getting me on my way. Job well done. You guys are good! You have another subscriber :)

2006 Commander here, new radio sounded excellent on test, I made a mistake on the dip switches, so will try again. The part listed for the backup camera did not work with any of the harnesses that were behind my unit. There were two extra harnesses in my old radio (factory amplified with video entertainment system), one white one, and 2 grey ones, both smaller than the main harness. I figured I'll try again another day. Please correct that link to the backup camera, though.

don't know if this will get a reply, but I got everything from amazon as stated. Only weird thing was the pink wires. Vehicle Speed Sensor and on the unit i believe it is parking brake. I see that you left the speed sensor off. will do the same. (will just cap those 2 wires).

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited w/factory amp. There is an older Boss HU in there now. I haven’t opened the dash yet, but I noticed on my Metra interface harness there are two connectors that come off of the harness that are supposed to plug into the truck side factory harness. I noticed you only have one connector at the truck side to plug into. Do I only use one of the two connectors or do I have the wrong harness? Thanks!

Well I'm a couple hours into an install on my wife's Jeep and I don't think it's possible to make this work. The 2008 limited has a different cutout opening that does not allow a double DIN to fit. Have all the wearing done but I can just not get the head unit to fit in the dash without cutting.

Why spend more money on a harness that doesn’t let you use the fade control. My had an aftermarket Boss head unit with a Metra harness when I purchased the vehicle. It was connected to the factory amp and the fade worked properly. I just installed a Kenwood head unit with a new Metra harness, but the fade control is now gone. I also noticed that the access/metra harness for the Boss radio was for a 2007 Chrysler not a 2006.

@@ProvoBeastAudio yeah true. I bought everything listed in this video except the head unit, I bought a different one as it had a USB input right on the front of the unit so I didn't have to run that flush mount USB. Anyway the harness that came with the head unit didn't have that female 3.5mm plug like the one in this video so the crux kit says to cut off the 3.5mm male end and wire it in using key1 and key2 wires except my harness only has one labeled key1 and the only other wire not being used is a blue one labeled antenna

For the most part yes. The only difference may be the steering wheel volume control compatibility. This is a pretty cheap radio, anything less expensive generally are no-named cheap Chinese units that may cause you more problems then they are worth.
