Very well filmed, with clear explanations. Thanks for taking the time to do this, it's very helpful.

Sorry. Yes. As video title suggests, it was fixed.
@Dr_Dungheap Жыл бұрын
Thx for the video! Had the same problem with my '05. Didn't want to wait for the new drive shaft, so I just replaced the failed u-joint. Since it's riveted together one has to get creative. Used tack welds to hold new u-joint. It was supposed to be a temporary fix, but since it's been there over two years, I'd call it good enough for me.
@mrOnlinePolice Жыл бұрын
Oh wow. What supplier did you use for a new u joints? Do you have a part number?
@Dr_Dungheap Жыл бұрын
Sorry no part number.. It was a general size tho, used in some Mercedes models too. Just take the measurements or joint to a parts store. Have to be careful to center the new u-joint within the forks. Probably wont be as balanced, as a new shaft assembly, but good enough for a daily driver. Cheers.

Does it matter if the car is manual or auto when it comes to buying a driveshaft?

According to rockauto, they are different part numbers

Should I bolt down the bearing last when attaching the driveshaft to the vehicle?
@sadrhogollsodia95059 ай бұрын
I ask because I have a vibration at highway speeds, and I think I bolted the support bearing after I bolted down the rear differential input side.
@sadrhogollsodia95059 ай бұрын
Suppose it wouldn't hurt to try and redo it. I just dislike crawling around in gravel.

@@sadrhogollsodia9505did you ever figure this out? Just got a new to me x3 and it rides smooth as could be but over 40mph the whole car starts to rumble. Transfer case was clearly replaced at some point by some hackjob so thinking they must’ve dropped the ball on reassembly too

Great video! Can you list the source of the new shaft? thanks.

Thank you for your feedback. I bought it on ebay. It was a seller who does not specialize in auto parts. I offered $200 for it, and seller agreed. Otherwise it's anywhere from $270-$400 range. They could be fully serviceable/greaseable or not serviceable at all.

Do not for the love of God get underneath the car using scissor jack. Much safer with jackstands. Otherwise solid vid (2004 x3 83).
@mrOnlinePolice2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes car was on a scissor jack, but it also had all tires in place on top of ramps. If that scissor jack failed, car would still be on the ramps raised high enough not to squish me.

Can’t you remove rust and lubricate the old shaft u joint ??and reuse it ?
@mrOnlinePolice2 жыл бұрын
Probably not. By the time those rusty joints come out, they will be destroyed.

@@mrOnlinePolice but those x3 are underrated I don’t why ? Can it be used as daily driver car is it good as e39 and e46 or it’s problematic , if I want I’ll take 2004-2005 without electric pump and this screen I drive But how about transfer case if it failed can you disable it and drive safely? Cause I’ve seen many people removed harness or fuse but abs and traction won’t work 😳😳😳 and those cars are rarely available in my country so you have to live without it until you got a working one in junkyard 😅

@@Sroor90010 I had many problems with mine. When I bought it, It 66k miles, sold it with 89k miles. Replaced starter, drive shaft, battery, ignition coils. Ticking noise from the engine, AC would not hold freon. Transmission had delayed upshoft from 3rd to 4th. I did not like it. I sold it.

I guess it's cheaper to make them non serviceable. Remember, consumer products are meant to be throw away type of goods. Even in the manufacturing settings, parts are simply replaceable. As an industrial mechanic, I see it everyday.
