2006-2016 Impala/Limited (9th Gen) Spec-D Projector Headlights Installation and Review *AUXITO LEDS*

Are you looking to update the look of your 9th Gen Impala? In this video I unbox and install a set of Spec-D Projector Headlights on my 9th Gen 2015 Chevy Impala Limited. I also replace the included lamps with LEDs from Auxito. The Spec-D's truly modernize the look of the 9th Gen with an LED perimeter strip and a projector-beam headlight.
As noted, before installation you are going to need to install a strip of weatherstripping along the top and fender side edge and also seal the lenses with a clear sealant.

@CertifiedShadetree LED's at first but the output wasn't that good. Switched to 55watt 6k bulbs and omg so much better.

I had the same headlights paired with those led SpecD taillights in black without tinting, but I took them all out and reinstalled OEM lighting because I just didn't like them anymore. My two main reasons were that my Impala was damaged in accident so the headlights didn't line up any good and wouldn't stop bouncing around, and after one snowy winter season the clear coat was already starting to peel on both headlights. They were decent aftermarket lights though, the SpecD headlight bulbs were bright enough and other lights were okay but not as bright as OEM. I could have kept the taillights but they didn't have red lenses to make it look more factory since they are black/clear.

That's good to know about the clear coat. I have a clear coat restoration kit at the ready for just such an instance!!

I bought spiderco projectors for mine, what a mistake! They’re horrible. My fog lights were brighter. Looks like yours turned out much better. I might get a pair of them.

I'm seriously considering HIDs after chatting with DLRI below. These LEDs were okay when driving through the neighborhood, but not so great out on a desolate 2-lane highway. Just so you're aware before you commit to these. I wouldn't say the housings themselves are bad - the beam pattern is fantastic.

Those LED load resistors I mounted to steel but I mounted them behind the headlights so you can't see them. Hmm, I wonder why the front and rear flash at a different time?

@@TheShornak I just might do that. I'm not impressed with the Auxito lamps, so I will be changing them out soon. Would be a perfect time to move the load resisters!

@@TheShornak Too dim. They're rated at 9000 lumens. I just ordered up a set of 20000 lumen Auxitos with an external fan. Hoping they light up the road a bit more!!

I have a pair of these on my impala for 2 years now and they work great. But I put a pair of 5500k HID bulbs instead of LEDs. Also, if anything goes wrong I think spec d offers a free replacement warranty if something were to go wrong I think it’s within 90 days or so but I could be wrong.

🤔You've got me intrigued now! I just ordered a brighter set of LEDs 'cause I'm disappointed with the ones I put in there. Alright, that tears it! If the new LEDs don't light the road the way I want them to, I'm looking into a set HIDs!!

I’m sorry for intriguing you 🤣 yeah from my experience I’ve tried all sorts of LED bulbs on these housings and none of them produced as much light down the road as a good set of HID lamps, from your night drive clip they look pretty good as they are. But if those LEDs you just ordered doesn’t yield much of an improvement, I’d recommend either the brands “Innovited”, “DDM Tuning”, or “Morimoto” but they can definitely get up there in price range so it’s up to how much you wanna spend. Just try and keep the color temperature near 6000 kelvin and you’ll be golden.

Did you end up drilling out the dust caps to be able to fish the ballast wiring through? Or possibly cut the harness and fish the individual wires through the holes that are already there then splice the wires back together?? 🤷‍♂️

@@CertifiedShadetreeyeah the ballast wiring has a grommet for running through the dust cover. Also just a side note for HID lamps a 50 watt ballast is better and brighter than the 35 watt option that some of them come with. Also be sure to mount the ballast somewhere either with double sided tape or the included hardware so they don’t bounce around going down the road.

Yes they have, although it's only been 8 months since I installed them. I'm willing to bet the clear coat will begin to peel around the 2 year mark like every other aftermarket housing.

Both lights? Yeah, those should illuminate when you switch on the headlights. I'd send them back.

@@CertifiedShadetree yeah both sides. When the cars starts up it only turns on the hallo low and high lights. zero lights from the led strip. I sent them a email they’re gonna send new ones.
