My Electric fan stopped working on my 2006 Lincoln Town-car and caused an overheat. This video was helpful in me fixing it. It was the relay that he points out around the 1:30 mark of the video, I know many people are saying to replace the whole electric fan assembly , but this was much easier for me and the part was less than 25 to buy and was plug and play.

So are you saying there is not a larger relay in this system? Only a fuse and a control module + sending unit behind alternator? Thanks for the help. I'm mostly a Chevy guy and they have large relay in the system.

My transmission temp is a little to high for my liking. I install a additional transmission cooler but also want to add the auxiliary fan on the front of the cooler. Can I splice the fan into the radiator fans so they cut on at the same time or just run it from its own source??

I would run it from its own source with its own relays and its own switch so you can turn it on or off at your own disposal.

Hi i have a 2007 grand marquis... I tried to connect with a jumper starter directly to the fan it did not spin until I just move it by my hand, I tried the same thing on the module result was same. , fuse looks fine the module was replaced with a new one OEM a year ago. Heat sensor reads normally. Only on a cold start the fan spins when switching AC on after reaching operating heat every time I stop AC is not cooling. should i replace the fan motor? Or there is something I am missing?

Good video. Fan module and fan motor can be replaced without replacing the complete assembly. Cylinder head temp sensor explanation is very good. Note the condition of the connector wire, the flex tubing has disintegrated exposing wire to more engine heat. Heat increases wire resistance which could cause PCM to read higher sensor temp than actual. Heat causes PCM to retard ignition so the result is lost engine power. Replace the flex tubing.

In my 2008 crown vic police interceptor the fan module was damaged, I did a voltage test and it only raises 4 volts. I bought a new module and when I installed it it didn't give me a single volt, so I went back to the store and talked to the supervisor and told him what was happening, he gave me a different module but it doesn't work... I put the module back in original and it gives me a reading of 4 volts. I do not know what it could be

Hello friend, I have a situation with a crown vic 2011, previously another mechanic had already worked on the car and did not find the problem and put the fan directly on the battery, I tell the customer to buy a new module, thermostat and the temperature sensor to be sure that everything is new and to turn on the fan, everything new is installed but even so the fan does not turn on as it should, there is voltage for the fan to turn on but apparently there is no ground, so I do a ground alternated, well the fan starts but does not turn off, it remained active even with the car off, what can you suggest to me regarding this .. I will wait for your answer and thank you

Hey Love the helpful videos. But my 08 crown Vic has been a tank up until last week only running hot when idling. Fan doesn’t seem to be working but all fuses relays and it getting voltage, the Only thing that’s sus is the ohms reading on the last plug u showed us in the video. It’s reading 3.95 w engine at 190 maybe 200 degrees. My ohm reader is old I think it only works on (20k) setting, would that be a factor. I’ve spent so much on parts in two days while driving the 2500hd to work (GAS SUCKR) so there’s that. And NOW only to find that the fans is not kicking on. Please tell me it the Drivetrain Temp Sensor and not Fan Motor. Jk either is cool lol… 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Thanks man your Videos are sooooo helpful.!!!💯🙏😎

@@denzeltucker2920 Hello Denzel My grandsons ex 2011 cop car was over heating in traffic so I had to study up on the cooling fan operation.If you can dissconnect cyl head temp sensor and the fan runs on high consistently then in my opinion things are ok from the pcm out.I would still inspect your connector at the input side of the module and the connector on the output side of the module ,they both melt ,quite common,I also used a headlight and jumper wires to double check the current at the input side of the fan module to load it and make sure the current there is up to snuff .That being said if everything passes inspection you may have to roll the dice and try a pcm Regards

If the fan is turning then recharge your A/C for about $20-30 bucks. If fan is not turning then replace the Fan Control Module for about $30 bucks. If that doesn't work replace the entire Cooling Fan Assembly for about $200. If the A/C works while the car is moving and gets warm at idle it's usually the Fan Control Module or entire Cooling Fan Assembly. Hope that helps.

I got a 1999 CVPI and it does pretty much the same thing. The car overheats when the AC is on, replaced the compressor, condenser, accumulator, orifice plug, and radiator cooling fan. Also replaced the relays and fuses and radiator. And after all of that the damned thing still overheats when the AC is on, the compressor clutch kicks on and off and the brand new radiator fan doesn't come on I'm at my wits end, got the replacement cable for both the fan and the compressor and gonna use my guages to check refigerant levels.

Have the same question did you find it?
@chachavessel
@chachavessel 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickcarter9373 there is no mechanical relay. the speed controller mounted on the side of the shroud is both a Solid Sate relay and speed controller. This is replaceable and can be purchase separately. I got it on amazon and solved my problem of not turning on. These usually go bad and could possibly cause a slight load on the battery causing your battery to slowly drain and go dead if the motor does not turn on at all. usually if you don't drive it a lot or the battery is at its end of life. This happens when the MOSFET inside are slightly leaking instead of a full dead short which would cause the fan NOT to turn off. Note: A shorted speed controller would cause the fan to run continuously, if the MOSFET's inside are slightly leaking (source to drain), it would not turn on the fans, but MIGHT cause some current drain and might slowly drain your battery. If they are completely OPEN, they will not run at all. *Please keep in mind that this is from an electronics point of view and not from a Ford mechanic.

@@chachavessel Big help thanks, Can a hot wire be run from the fan plug itself to positive battery terminal for emergency to get it to shop? If yes what gage wire and to WHICH terminal of the fan plug should I attach it??
@chachavessel
@chachavessel 3 жыл бұрын
@@REVNUMANEWBERN Yes, you can. That was going to be my plan b option. Run a true 10AWG wire, with a fuse preferably to the positive terminal, 30Amp for extra measure. Another idea would be to use a mechanical relay 30amp, the coil would be energized when you turn the key, thus it will always run, but only when you turn the key. You could find a tap in the fuse box with a multi meter. You'll have to go back & fourth to find 12volts, unless you have another person to help you. Yet another option would be to add a thermal switch to activate the coil. In this manner it would turn on and off as needed. They sell them The same relay harness you would use when mounting extra lights. If you need further help, just leave a message here.
