That's a nice Crown Vic, it's a street appearance package with a regular police grille paint matched around the edges. The color is also rare Arizona Beige

Well done, with some funny commentary. I had two Grand Marquis in the past, then three years ago I picked up a 2009 Crown Victoria P71 with 103,000 miles. It's definitely a stiffer ride with the P71, but you don't get the sag in the suspension when you load the car either. These cars are extremely reliable, easy to work on, and parts are cheap. They are still fairly affordable, but I have noticed they are commanding higher prices at the auction than they did just a few years ago.

Awesome Panther tribute. Thank you for posting it. I like what you've done to yours. The Vic is a survivor and I love it! In 1996 it got a huge shot in the arm when GM discontinued the Chevy Caprice. The real reason it was discontinued wasn't it's inability to achieve CAFE standards for gas mileage, but rather the Panther platform couldn't support electronic stability control required for all vehicles sold in the US in 2012.

I did bye a 2004 Crown Victoria LX from a Dealer in Nokomis florida, and importet it to Norway here in scandinavia. My friend do it to. My color was Arizona Beige, and my friens color was Maroon(red color). We are very happy with these reable fulsize cars. Quiet and nice to drive. Mine had ony 16k miles on the odometer from the dealer, and now is almost 45k miles. Europeens has not made a car as durable and reable as the crown vic, and with rigid frame. The only issue I have had, is the headlight automatic in the black contolbox. Had to replace the 4 relay on the mainboard. Did soldered off the old one, and installed some stronge OMRON relays. Was a fine job for an electrician. I did change to dual exhaust with quiet mufflers and resonators to keep it orginal. Did notice more torque and respose with this change.

One flaw that these cars had were their inability to catch cars such as Mustangs, Hellcats, BMWs, and other sport cars in high speed chases. I have a 2004 MGM. Very dependable as Larry Bird making that clutch shot before the buzzard. However the cars mentioned above usually lost these cars during high speed chases. That is probably why Impalas were downsized

The main problem with that 4.6L are the timing belt tensioners and guides. They switched to a plastic tensioner around 2004 and they fail, leak and chew up the guides. Switching back to metal tensioners seems to help eliminate that problem (along with putting a full timing chain kit in with sprockets). The camshafts seem to get pitting on them as well, and these parts are getting hard to find. If you have the automatic climate control, the o-rings will dry rot and fail and then you will be stuck with defrost only. You can open it up and replace the o-rings which also fixes that issue. The blower motor resistor seems to fail on these cars too. My friend got all these problems on a low mileage 2004 Grand Marquis. These cars seem to run pretty smooth and they are nice looking cars. They were just way too big, they should have worked on shrinking them a little, at least on length. That is one clean looking Crown Vic

Super clean Arizona Beige SAP! Very envious, lol. My Arizona Beige 2008 paint took a beating from being on patrol so not too worried about getting more scratches. I like the painted honeycomb grill and the Marauder spoiler. Not sure I like the Exploder V8 badges on the fenders but it is eye catching. I also have 5 spoke Mustang rims on mine. Mine are 2005 model year so have factory painted beige spokes which are close color match. All silver rims look very nice and there are no Mustang center caps to swap out. Consider swapping stock wing mirror inserts for factory painted inserts from Mercury Grand Marquis. If you don't already have heated wing mirrors, swap in the complete MGM assembly. If you want OEM remote keyless entry, swap in the door module from a LX or MGM. Find the pinout for the module and tap into the trunk release button in the door to enable remote trunk release. When you are at the junk yard, take the wiring and connector from the donor car's door. Spare connector pins will make the trunk mod a snap. There are LCM settings to consider. Turn off dark mode and turn on Daytime Running Lights. DRL gets attention on the road and keeps them out of the way.

What did they change in the Crown Vic to downrate the towing capacity: Look at the rear suspension. 1997 Crown Vic is very different from physical layout of the 1998 and beyond Crown Vic. From Wikipedia: "Under the 1998 redesign, several changes were made to the rear suspension to improve general road manners (at the expense of reduced towing capacity). The original three-link coil-spring configuration was replaced with a four-link configuration with a Watt's linkage. Continuing the use of four-wheel disc brakes, for 1998, enlarged brake rotors necessitated a shift to 16-inch wheels for all Crown Victoria models. For 1999, ABS became standard on all Crown Victorias (except Police Interceptors)." Having pointed out all of this, Please let me know the brand and size of what I believe to be American Racing rims on your Crown Vic. A simple, supercool mod.
@atomicautomobile8537
@atomicautomobile8537 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mean you would have a point but the tow rating was down rated from 5 to 2 k years before the rear suspension modification took place. Seems pretty transparent to me. As for the wheels, they may be American racing but I actually think they may have been mustang wheels. Buddy whose car it was sold it recently so can’t say for sure.

The reason why Europeans tow with sedans also has to do with the fact that until recently, the speed limit while towing was 80 km/h (50 MPH), including the German Autobahn. Obviously that requires a lot less power and stability (which requires length and mass of the tow vehicle). Only recently (early 2022) have EU regulations been changed to allow certain mass combinations (which also include technical restrictions like requiring trailer shocks and stabilizing couplings) to go up to 100 km/h (62 MPH).

1997 to 2003, Ford went with a "Watts Link" rear suspension. 2003 and beyond, went with rack & pinion steering combined with the Watts Link in the rear. So the implication of "no major changes in hauling capacity" is absolutely false.

They downrated the towing capacity years before they made those mechanical changes; my point still stands, they were doing it just to do it and not as a necessary response to a design change.

@lukebell6480 incorrect. These were also unibody. Torsion beam suspension in front. And leaf springs in the rear. That's the Chrysler R body. So that wikipedia article (that anybody can just edit anytime they want) is incorrect.

@lukebell6480 The 1 model that stayed BOF was, the D body Chrysler Imperial through 1966. Then in 1967 it went to the C body (unibody) platform. So that is the 1 model that is an exception.
