People love Crown Vics, particularly the Interceptor, because it’s so honest. It represents a kind of car simply not made anymore. The stripped down sedan, dedicated to being strong, solid, and dependable transportation with a lot of room... By the way, it looks fabulous in that shade of blue.

Was assigned a 2011 P7b black. It arrived at the command in 2013 w 300 miles on it cause it sat for 2 years before it went to work. I drove it everyday doing radar from 2014-2018 until it got condemned. I knew where they went at auction. Tracked it down and bought it for a few thousand after getting into a bidding war with some knucklehead. She now sits in my driveway with only 72k. I Restored it, Got it repainted , new suspension work and a few other things. Wish I could post pictures but it truly is hysterical when people see it and say wow is that an old cop car. I say yep it was assigned to me I drove it, I worked in it and now I own it forever. I have a few other cars 89 box caprice and a 70 Chevelle but driving my old Vic is pretty cool knowing I did a lot of speeds and made a lot of dwi arrests in that thing. Cars today at work suck the Vic was the best car I ever drove. Comfortable, dependable , and a tank. I’ll never get rid of it. Great car.

I became a police officer in 2015 and my first patrol car was a 2011 Vic, only had 45,000 miles on it! It sat in the corner of the lot and nobody drove it since they got a new line of SUV's. Once I charged the battery I drove it every day I worked, and I ran the living piss out of it being the traffic unit. That car was put through hell in pursuits, going WOT after cars, idling constantly, getting puked on by drunks, but it never bitched about it. It was retired and taken out of service in 2017 with 126,000 miles on it and was sold for $2,500. For all the times I trusted my life with that car I cried a bit when I saw it at the city shop with no decals or light bar. Amazing cars they are.

Fun story. Back in the day, I was a production assistant for one of the Hollywood studios. My favorite part of post was actually the Foley recording - all those _background_ noises that aren't actual dialog or main sound effects. Anyway, got talking to one of the recordists, and he mentioned that the Crown Vic was the best car-door slammer, soundwise. The latch has that nice, high-frequency *_snick_* sound, while the honest-to-god steel door shell.gave it the perfect, solid *_chunk_* sound. Turns out, _everybody_ used it, back in the Eighties and Nineties! So, next time you're sitting in a theater, and hear that big, chunky *_tha-chunk_* car door, thank the lowly Crown Vic! 😊

I don't care what anyone says, the Crown Victoria was, AND IS A great fucking American car. I was a cab driver in Southern California for 11 years, and what did I drive the whole time?? You guessed it, yours truly a 1999 Crown Victoria, and that was the one I put over a million miles into. I drove others that were in our yard, while mine was in the shop for its monthly oil change. I drove an average of 200 miles a day, 6, 7 days a week. Omg, what a tank!! NOT one time can I remember it dying on me, it never broke down. My partner and I would drive the living shit out of that car, never let us down. It also has balls, terrible on gas, but, for what it was made for....DRIVING!! I'd drive one today, no probs!!👍💯

You got a good deal on your Panther Cars. I recently purchased the Mercury Grand Marquis from a CHP officer even though it was his family car it has been a very impressive car. Recently the alternator went out but for a 2005 Mercury that happens. Wow, what a difference in the ease of replacing the alternators on the Panther Cars as opposed to my Buick Park Avenue especially when trying to put the serpentine belt back on. Having a rear wheel drive is so much easier to work on than a cross mounted engine and transmission. The engine is bigger on the Mercury a 4.6 as compared to the 3,8 engine on the Buick so the MPG is not as good as the Buick but the power and take off is incredible on the Mercury. Overall between the City and Highway driving with the cruise control on it is comparable MPG between both cars.

While my current vehicular choice tends to be biased towards European vehicles, my current pride and joy is a 1990 Jetta GLI Wolfsburg Edition. My Mom bought the car brand new in 1990 and it’s a weird car....in 1990 VW never imported the Jetta GLI to Canada....we got the Jetta GTX. Our GLI is equipped with all the standard GLI features (sunroof, trip computer, power seats, power mirrors, power windows, central locking, Recaro sport seating, ski sack and spoiler). Under the hood, the car has a 1.8L Digifant II 4 cylinder powerplant and automatic transmission....features that VW never offered officially. I am in the process of restoring the car...I’ve built a new engine based on the 2.0L ABA used in later models of the Golf and Jetta. A specialized cam, higher flowing cylinder head, high flow injectors and a few other tweaks have taken this engine to producing 165 horsepower at the crank. It’s a unique car and even better that it’s been in the family since Day 1. Even better was that when I got the birth certificate from VW in Germany, it was built on my birthday....May 14.
@hullinger5 жыл бұрын
Wow man, great story with the VW. Super cool about the build date too and that it's been in the family it's whole life. Thanks for sharing that!

East Coast Classics I’ll send you some pictures...I like that generation of Jetta since it looks like the box it was shipped from Germany in. They are really the last generation of simple, straightforward watercooled VW. I also have a ‘68 Beetle hat I bought from the original owner. It was only driven for 7 years before being put into storage. It has 53k miles on it and is complete...,the engine is a a seized boat anchor but for a car that spent its life in Canada, it’s solid as a rock. It even had the original sales brochure in the glovebox!

Very comprehensive and truthful review of one of the best of the last full size body-on-frame, rear wheel drive V-8 American sedans. I've owned my 2000 Mercury Marquis for over 10 years and it has a permanent spot beside my 1966 old-school B & M Supercharged Chevy C-10 that I've owned for 35 years. Basically the Mercury is the same car just built slightly lighter-duty, with a few less H.P and more "bling." I wanted a Ford police car but could not pass up the deal I got on the Mercury. Other than the cold-air intake that I needed to replace with a after market unit because the plastic square box with metal clips that held the air-filter was warped and very difficult to find un-warped I've had absolutely no issues or repairs. It's a wonderful driving car and gets unusually good gas mileage also. On three carefully documented long drives [ non-mountainous ] The car consistently achieved 25-26 MPG. using the cruise control set at 68 MPH. It's a keeper for sure. Thanks again for the Video ! I worked in a grease pit many years ago and it was a quick change joint that the local police department used for getting the oil changed on their cars. I really used to admire these Crown Victoria's. Solid. Heavy Duty. I have an '85 Corvette. I wouldn't mind getting one of these Vic's to be my daily driver. My Dad had a Crown Victoria many years ago. He got disabled and had to sell it. I loved that car. I didn't know he was even selling it and found out he let it go for $500 dollars. That's Ok. I like the police version better anyway. Black on Black. Spotlight. Would make for a nice comfy 4 hour ride to NYC for me, my wife, and my dogs. Great Video.

A few years ago I bought a 2007 with 12,000 miles on it. That's right - 12,000 miles on it. It belonged to the Feds and the guy who drove it was way up the food chain, so he didn't drive it much. Dark blue like yours. It was a beast. Never drilled for overheads or antennae, they used the trunk kit for the antennae. Windows were tinted. Scared the sh*t out of folks at night - those headlights and parking lights are distinct. Sad day when I sold it. It was a lot of fun.
@KenVic025 жыл бұрын
Totally agree on the Vic's lighting... can't miss it. Now the Chargers have an equally distinct front and rear lights... especially the rears. You can spot their racetrack pattern a half mile in front at night.

I owned a 99 it was one of my favorite cars. Amazing handling but you missed mentioning the 4 link rear end with a watts linkage instead of a panhard bar. The Crown Vic handled like a sports car. My 99 also was rated higher on the skid pad than a Porsche Boxster. I was also able to fit a 275 x 18 tire on the front and a 315 x 18 tire on the back with black bullit rims and no rubbing. With those tires it stuck to the road like velcro. It is a great car. RIP😢

I got my first CVPI back in early May. It's an '06 and even though it has that damned paint peel going on, it still a great car. Really fun to drive. I am not sure if I thanked you before or not? but it was this video that help me make my mind up on the P7B that I own today.I had talked to two mechanics that I go to (separate garages) about getting a used police interceptor, asked about the Taurus & Charger. they both said "no, you want to buy a cop car, find a Crown Vic, built like a tank, body on frame, easy access to parts, super reliable. I looked here on KZbin for some info and saw this video. It was the most straight forward, informative vid from a personal view that you could watch. I hope this doesn't sound hokey or anything like that, but I watched this a few times and started looking for one. It took about a month, had to drive to another Province (I'm in Canada) but I found one, 2011 P7B Police Interceptor, my daily driver! I love this friggin' car! So, thank-you very much for posting this video!

Alright. I’ll have to confess. I own an 87 Plymouth Gran Fury that is a retired NYPD undercover from the 41st PCT. it’s got the pushbars still there, spotlight, lights behind the grille, that still wig wag, siren still works, lights and siren is for car show demonstrations only, but still, it’s very official looking, black steel rims, dog dish hubcaps, and people still don’t want to pass me. Friggen tickles me half to death
@hullinger6 жыл бұрын
I have to tell you that I'm insanely jealous that you have a Plymouth Grand Fury cop car! That's a car that I've been casually searched for too. Each Diplomat or Grand Fury I've come across was either too beat or crazy too expensive to even consider. There was a time those cars were everywhere but finding a good one today is nearly impossible. Any chance you've got some video of her that you could share? -Chris

East Coast Classics There is just something bad ass about the M body cop cars. Even more official looking than the Vics....I feel anyway. Coming a bit late to this - only just found it 2 years after you posted it. If only there was a used car option like this in the UK, where I live. The police here drive pretty standard offerings from BMW in the main. When they age, they get expensive to repair. I love functional, tough cars with no frippery or frills that just do the job of getting you around (I drove older Saabs for years). Something this would be perfect for me. Thanks for sharing. Had a ‘98 dark dark green Mercury Grand Marquis. A friend of mine built them at the St Thomas Ontario plant and asked where I bought my car. He told me they are so hard to find because it was the only year the Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Continental were exactly the same, head to toe, except for the decals. He said my value at least doubled when I bought it. Plenty of power with the interceptor. Sports car drivers slowed right down to the speed limit whenever I approached them from behind. Many thought I was a Canadian RCMP officer. Never ever got a ticket either! Best car I ever owned !

Most folks don't need the extra "cop" stuff. Honestly, the Grand Marquis is a panther platform that usually hasn't suffered anywhere near the abuse or idle hours a typical CVPI has. Usually, a better buy for long-term reliability compared to the Vics
