Pedro rocks! I just repaired my 2009 Accord after watching this video. Only took about a minute to do once I got situated in the trunk. Here's are several helpful hints when doing this: 1-wear safety glasses and a helmet just in case, 2-fold down the rear seat and enter the trunk from inside the vehicle, 3-have a helper standing outside of the trunk, 4-once the vice grips are locked on, you will need to exert quite a bit of torque to rotate the spring bar, I couldn't quite get it but then my helper pulled on my arm just a little and that was enough to lock it in place.

From may 2020 when i bought my civic 2019 with 17 miles trough december 2020 i got two times the spring wire broke. I work as a pizza driver and i use the trank many times cause i keep pizza bags in the trank. The first time the spring broke i mess the arms of the lid so now the car body do not get even at the trank, at least no dot get water when it rains 🤨. Driven severals toyotas never had that problem Thank you sir Pedro from Margate FL.

This was very good as I did not have the Honda Tool and it would have taken 3 weeks for Honda dealership to bring it for me. I got the torsion bar (only one, the Left one) from the Honda Dealership and they got it for me the next day and it only costed me $23 (the cheapest compared to what the others were asking me on the Internet) and Honda did not charge me anything for shipping. This video helped me because this showed how to use the Locking Pliers. I bought the 10" Straight Jaw Locking Pliers and it was not that difficult to put the torsion bar through the slots. It took me only about 15 minutes to get this done. If I took it to the dealership for the repair, they told me that they would replace both the torsion bar and will charge $75 for the parts and another $75 for labor + taxes. I was so happy that I watched this video and thank My Everyday D.I.Y profusely.

Thank you for this video, one of my trunk springs snapped in half (well snapped toward the part that hooks into the hinge) while I was driving the other day, I guess there was so much tension that it literally shot the bar into the back of my trunk, causing a sound so loud that it rang my ears. I 100 percent thought that someone had fired a gun at close range to where I was driving.. turns out the cause of it breaking so violently was my aftermarket subwoofer in the trunk. It must have vibrated it so much over the years that it caused it to snap. I had my music at maximum volume when it happened and still the noise it made was so loud that I jumped out of my skin haha.

Thanks for making the video. I used a nail claw to twist the torsion rod, as I couldn't get a good grip with the pliers. I originally ordered from HondsPartsNow and they didn't seal the box well, so I received an empty box for way too much money. Wound up pulling a part at a neighboring town's salvage yard for less than five bucks.

Thank you! I tried to install a factory Honda torsion bar spring like this in my '05 Acura TL using pry bars for levers, but it won't work -- there's not enough room to twist the torsion bar. I also tried Vise Grips to grab the bar like shown here, but without getting in the trunk -- couldn't get it done, and it seemed dangerous. Do yourself a favor, and do it like this ol' boy does and crawl into the trunk on your back. It took 10 seconds using the ramp method he shows after flailing for nearly 30 minutes the other way. I used nylon tie downs hooked on the rear door handles and around the trunk lid to keep the trunk open while I did this.

it almost looks like there is another notch to go. in the final connection, that spring seat looks like maybe for a high and low or for when it gets sprung, not broken, it can be tightened to the next groove. if you catch this comment and know, fill me in, thanks. the one i'm working on now has 2 torsion springs, a 1996 accord they are the same, only one it broken. ( i don't think it's a key activated trunk, even though there's 2 wires running to it, could be license plate light.) like a motorcycle rear shock (old days,) if you were under a specific weight you could leave the spring preload on its lowest level. if you were more heavy or hauling a passenger you could twist the adjuster to one or 2 more tensioner positions with a spanner wrench that came with the bike. cool video, thanks.

@norabder1008

Okay Linda, I was going to do a short video to show you but I am unable to do so right now. The key actually just unlocks the lid. The spring assists the lid opening. In other words the lid will still open if you pull up on it after unlocking it. The spring only helps to lift and hold the lid open. If you have someone to help you, you can have them pull up on the trunk release next to the driver seat while you lift on the trunk lid. If you still cannot open it you may have another issue. There is a place to insert your car key in the area where you back speakers are but it will only allow you to fold the seat down and give you access to your trunk. I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching, Pedro

@@norabder1008 Thanks, but this model year doesn't have the key area on the shelf. We have now managed to get into the trunk via another video. Insert a broom handle between where the seats fold down, use a flashlight to pear in the tiny area and press the end of the broom handle on the release that is inside the trunk. tricky, but lots less frustrating than searching for answers.
