I remember years ago a guy came in with his car after it failed it's MOT because of the ABS light on. They told him the main modulator had failed and it was £1200 for a new unit. I checked it out and the other garage was correct and not scamming. He said he couldnt afford to repair it and didn't care about the ABS so i spliced the ABS light to the Airbag system. Light came on with the Airbag and went off so the other garage passed it thinking he had it fixed. Nice one

I think the check engine light is a good thing to have in a car; a warning about issues that you probably wouldn't be able to detect by how the car runs. I had a car where we decided to just leave the problem unfixed because it ran fine and would have been real expensive, so the light stayed on. What you failed to mention is that now you no longer have that warning for other problems, because the light is always on. There's no way to know if something else develops. I suppose you could just scan it every so often. For some problems, it might be worth the money to fix it not for the problem itself, but just to get your check engine light working again.

I have a coupe with 140K miles. These cars are built to run forever and stupid easy/cheap to buy, own and maintain. Single serpentine belt, mechanical valve-train, timing chain. Pretty much everything can be accessed from the top of the engine. Plenty of working room under the hood. Only real issue is the transmission had a recall. They installed a squirter in the fill hole and problem fixed.

Scotty - I watch every one of your videos I find on KZbin and love them all. One thing about this one you might have mentioned is that this car has an interference engine and will soon need a timing belt/water pump service. If you can’t do that yourself you are looking at about $1500 or so at a Honda dealer. One alternative is to find a mechanic you can trust who will do it for less. Or keep looking until you find a good used Camry. I believe that since about 2007 most of them had timing chains.
