Thank you so much for the video. I used it to help replace the oring in the top of the oil pump. There are many timing belt videos but none go past the timing belt portion and into the oil pump tutorial. This is apparently a common leak on these J series engines and everyone doing a timing belt should get this oil hole gasket replaced at the time of a timing belt.

I think book time is about 8 hours. Hondabond RTV says 24 hours before filling case with fluid. For a DIY person with average mechanical skill, taking your time I would budget 2-3 days. Includes picking up parts, test driving, waiting for RTV to dry, cleaning and dry fitting, rechecking torques and leaks etc. I suggest not removing the rearmost exhaust bolts, unless that joint is leaking. Instead, detach the exhaust and mufflers from rubber hangers towards the rear, keeping the entire exhaust in one piece. Great video thanks for posting. Really nice job reinstalling the oil pan without bumping the RTV around, thats not easy. Stay gold.

For a less messy job, this engine has a coolant drain plug. Also, Honda engines are very picky about using only genuine Honda coolant. Anything less is putting the coolant system at risk, including the head gasket. The job is also much easier to do if you take the power steering pump out, it doesn't take much time and it gives you a lot more room to work. Replace the fluid with genuine Honda power steering fluid also. Lastly, the FSM mentiones that before putting the covers back on to turn the engine manually a few times to double check that everything is well aligned. This is a very important step, since of you're even out by one belt notch you're putting the engine at risk. For the parts I only trust the Aisin kit.

Nice video and very informative. How long did this job take, and how long do you have to wait for the RTV to dry before adding oil? I'm planning to do the TB, water pump and oil pump job on our MDX.

Hi, I believe you mentioned the reason why you replaced the oil pump... Was it because it was leaking? I believe mine has a bad oil leak coming from the oil filter housing but not 100 percent sure especially from its proximity to the oil pump. Was your oil pump leaking? How can you tell where the oil was coming from? Thanks!

I couldn't get the belt on so I rotated the exhaust cam causing it to snap forward about 40 teeth. Now it won't stay at TDC without holding a wrench to it. How can i get it to stay put again?
@JuanRivera-ff6fd3 жыл бұрын
Put your belt on both cams and set it to TDC with the wrench. Once it’s in place use clamping devices on both cams holding the belt on to the cams so they won’t jump. I used small vise grips and protected the belt with cardboard. Once you release your hydraulic tensioner you have set your belt. You can now remove the clamping devices.Turn your crankshaft and ensure your engine timing is TDC.

Hi. Was your oil pump making a wining noise?

How did you torque the crankbolt back in? Did you use an impact gun or torque wrench?
@JuanRivera-ff6fd3 жыл бұрын
You should always use a torque wrench. Check the car’s specifications. In many Honda’s the torque is 181 ft lbs or 47 ft lbs plus 60 degrees. If you want to do it right you will need the Honda crankshaft tool that keeps the crankshaft from moving. You can purchase the tool from your auto parts stores. They are usually $ 20.00 and up. You can also rent them.

Very very important step. I learned the hard way, and bent the crank (different Honda) when the bolt came loose while driving. Never tighten with power tool/ air tool. Manual torque wrench only.

@@tumarbongrox6074 That's cheap! That's the labor cost alone for a timing belt/water pump replacement in the U.S., let alone adding in an oil pump.

Including the oil pump, if you're anywhere near a good size city in Ontario, you'll have a hard time finding someone who knows what they are doing for less than $2k.

A 💩Fram oil filter on HONDA???
@timhardman47644 жыл бұрын
I believe the Honda branded A02 filter is made by Fram. Honda has 3 part #'s for oil filters each made by a different company.
